Well they should have at least an extra 30 million euros available by not having to pay Renault for engines. Toro Rosso isn't as poor as you think they are as they don't pay for the drivers who are on Red Bulls books. They have access to the Red Bull technology centre for simulation, dyno and rig testing. Toro Rosso's poor end of 2017 performance was all about losing carlos sainz and Renault giving them spare bits for an engine. Sure they aren't the main team but they are by no means in the same situation as Sauber, Force India and Williams currently are.

PU doesn't cost 30mil EUROS.
One PU is not but in Renault's case it has been about 10 PU's a year for the last 3 years plus some spare parts that have cost this much. Every time I keep hearing about PU costs on TV that is the number being talked about for teams.
Not one PU. It doesn't cost 30mil euros for the entire season. The cost of PU is regulated and is out for there to see but I would let you do the work.

Hint : No where near 30mil euros ;)

A bit of research will see that F1 engine costs in 2017 was 13-18 million pounds. From what I understand that is roughly 25-30 million euros.

And another bit of research will tell you that pounds and euros stack up roughly the same. ;)

That makes ~ 5mln per engine ?! Or 20mln per year per team? (so 2.5mln per engine)

As a European living in the UK, I really wish this was true but...

Why is that even a news article? I thought STR was very clear in that it was a building year, partially because of the late engine switch.

Outside of that, that article is just describing a backmarker, the article applies to literally every backmarker ever. Sometimes everything just falls into place, or have they forgotten about the STR win in Monza 2008?

Let me know when you're converting a few million GBP to EUR - I'll happily take those extra 2million which mean little to you.

How is it paid? £, E or $? Could make a huge difference to a UK team

As far as I know the cost of engines has not yet been regulated since Ferrari had vetoed such decision. At the moment prices seem to be in the region of €20m, varying between engine manufacturers. I would presume though that this price is for a fixed amount of engines and if customers require more engines which is not a result of an engine failure, they might have to pay more.

If anyone has any link with any recent information for different manufacturers together with insight of such agreement would be great if you can share.

Back to the Toro Rosso Honda topic, it would also be great to understand if TR benefited financially by going with Honda, both in terms of additional funding and re-allocating previous engine funds on to the chassis.

Alas, looks like little to no upgrades for this GP, as I haven't read anything yet.

I'm sure they'd be updates in one form or the other, maybe their just minimal and not significant. It's also possible that they may run further updates during the 2 day post-race test, just me guessing. But at least it's fairly certain Honda will have their PU updates in Canada (as should Renault). It appears that's what Red Bull is waiting for before deciding on 2019.
