Mercedes have admitted they are "bloody worried" about their anticipated competitiveness against Red Bull and Ferrari in this weekend's Monaco GP.

Damage limitation this weekend, if they could take 4th/5th I think they'd be happy

4th and 5th would be close to be the worst result they can get. None of the midfield cars could touch them on pace.
I think they should be happy with a 3rd and 4th finish, as long as they are beating the Ferraris in the process.

How did Mclaren go in sector three of Barcelona? Just wondering if alonso might be a threat?

4th and 5th would be almost the best results in years...

To me it looks like they gave up mechanical grip on the rear for high speed flow. So I think they will be relative slow from the slow corners in Monaco.

Does FI also use Mercedes rear suspend on their Mercedes gearbox? If so, HAAS has good grip from Ferrari, FI from Mercedes and possible Sauber from Ferrari as well?

My guess is Q for McLaren at 12-14 or so, in the race a few points for Alonso. VanDoorne out of the points or crashes somewhere.

I dont have high hopes for Monaco. Haas uses Ferrari's rear end afaik, so suspension too and MCL33 is lacking in the low speed corners mechanical grip department. Always happy to be proven wrong though in such situations.

This is very optimistic because I cant see how a Mclaren can outpace any of the 6 top cars, unless they make a mistake.

Thanks for giving me the quote. I did not read the article. But when I first look at the pictures I thought it was more an aero guided change instead of an mechanical change. But I guess it could be both ways. But what i was saying still applies, there were errors on Ferrari's behalf and cannot be fully pointed to the change of tyres or suspension change. They had the quickest car in 4/5 races and somehow are behind in drivers and constructors and Kimi is a distant 4th in the championship. It's not great as history dictates they cannot develop as quickly as others. Case in point last year, started the year about the same as Merc and ended with 2/4 tenths slower than Merc

If that update was the responsible it should be obvious that they must go back to the previous one and try something new in the following races.

HAAS will be very strong in Monaco. Hypersofts suit their car and MAG is up with his game. too bad GRO is what, 3 grid slots down? With Safety car luck HAAS can score a podium.

No it was not only on Vettel's car. It was used on Vettel's car for practice and then it was used on both cars for Qualy and race.

feeling the pressure from his penalty, grosjean makes a mess of qualifying and ends up starting 17th, misses his braking / doesn't actually bother to brake into turn 1 and takes out everyone in front of him and the cars in 18th and 19th plough into the wreckage, sirotkin, in 20th, is so slow away that he doesn't hit anything and once again miraculously avoids any of the debris from grosjean's mistake and takes the win

The Grosjean bashing is getting old. Yes he made a big mess of the Spain start (also helped by Kmag's move) but indeed badly handled (pulling a smoke curtain whilst keeping his foot down and spinning all over the track) but he was actually having a very decent start up to the moment Kmag's side step surprised him. I think he will be the most careful starter of all in Monaco.
