Despite having issues with his Red Bull a long way ahead of the halfway mark of the race, Daniel Ricciardo mastered the conditions and controlled from the front, winning his first Monaco Grand Prix. Sebastian Vettel finished second with Lewis Hamilton completing the podium in third place.
Where exactly have u read this? There is no indication for such a strategy... if u have any source please enlighten me.
they will just bring these tyres with soft medium and hard label on it and we won't know if it is ultra or medium.. they are completely focused on casual fans.... remember how they stopped showing mini sector timings from 2017, labelling it as confusing
I agree in general, my favourite sports are F1, football and fighting. I tend to get caught up in the technical stuff of all 3, I love the tiny little details which make the difference.
However, the tyre thing seems like something that would help the casual, at absolutely no detriment to the more hardcore. We'll all see a list of tyres before the weekend, we'd see that they're taking Hyper as the soft, supersoft as the medium, etc. We'd join the dots and lose nothing.
My understanding from the official statement that they will just they will just bring these tyres with soft medium and hard label on it and we won't know if it is ultra or super softs.... it will be just soft compounds and we will never know it's real type.
This is simply wrong and just dumping down the sport
You obviously missed this bit:
"On a second level we will have compound A, B, C, D, E, F or whatever, and we will tell you that for this race, the hard is B, the medium is D, and whatever.
"So for spectators it's probably more understandable, but you also have the possibility to go deeper in detail for technical information that we will continue to provide.
I dunno the soft + A B C combo system actually seems far more confusing because letters on their own have no inherent meaning. But a descriptive title such as "ultra soft" does. When Pirelli came in I had no idea about the tyres, like a casual viewer but I immediately understood it from when it was briefly explained just once and when I saw the full range of tyres to build that schema in my mind. With the lettering now you have to explain something MORE to a casual who will undoubtedly want to learn more and will find it confusing that there are now these letters that are just ... Letters. It's like saying "it's so cold". Yea okay, simplicity is there but real meaning is lost until some descriptor is used like degree, Celsius, Kelvin, etc.
Also, where are the people who don't"get it"? I haven't seen any interviews where the fans are saying it's confusing. If Liberty is looking at American viewer reaction, most of whom do not follow F1, then of course everyone will be "confused". Confusion comes from lack of knowledge. Dumbing down sets a precedent for the future where the average expectation falls and you make things even more dumbed down. It just seems like a mess to break an established naming convention of the tyres that was set over the past few years.
Why was that again? i forgot why it's on a thursday instead of a friday.
Now they do it out of tradition.
But it began a long time ago when Fridays were reserved for the Royal luncheon or some such and they did not want the sound of the cars/running on the "track" to cause distraction and spoil the meal.
They can, and they will, it just takes time, it's not easy either. Next batch of upgrades should be coming 1st week of July, I know that they're just scratching the surface of what that new nose is going to do for them. Little by little the car will shed it's old skin and everything will be optimized to the new one.
Superficial bodywork tweaks/aero tidbits will never turn a slow car into a fast one. They will need a comprehensive re-design with new chassis and changed overall concept to get to where they want to go.
I wonder how long they can be considered a top team when they have virtually no sponsorship.
The most boring, so called race, on the F1 calendar. Can't wait for the weekend to be over and look forward to Canadian GP!
My money is on Red Bull. Anything else would be a surprise.
Would be awesome to see a McLaren on podium. Yeah, too much to ask for. But what the heck!
Wow, couldn't disagree more with that. There are only about 5 or 6 good events left on the F1 calendar these days, and Monaco is one of them. It's just unique and an incredible challenge.
Are they altering the sound of the engines in the onboard footage? Sound as if they artificially hightened the frequency or something. Sounds really weird.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II #Team44 supporter

I agree to an extent. Saturday is great and the drivers grapple with the ultimate challenge on the claendar. But Sunday is a glorified parade lap. Either you are stuck behind a slower car, in which case there's nothing you can do apart from a 2-3 minute burst of excitement during the pit window. Or you are behind a faster car in which case you might as well drive cautiously so you guarantee finishing the race. Monaco on Sunday personifies the worst aspects of F1. Plenty of meaningless pageantry and PR but no racing. It's basically like watching a line up of toy cars whilst 'Crofty' screams in my ear about how exciting it is.
It's an interesting dichotomy.

Boooooohooo to all of you. I love Monaco. Love it. It’s all part of the drama, and Max just showed why. I hope they’ll keep it forever.
