i think most mclaren fans will say firing eric b is the right thing to do. he failed. you are right i am not a mclaren fan but i understand why mclaren want him out. he totally failed the team.
How exactly? In designing the car? For reliability issues? Switching to Renault? He didn't design the car, or decide on the switch, Mansour Ojjeh pushed for the switch. He started putting pressure on them as early as pre season 2017. He thought his good relationship with Mercedes hierarchy would get them a deal. Eric does exactly what Christian Horner does, if the car doesn't go fast would you blame Horner? If the switch to Honda doesn't pay off should Horner get fired?
I think you just have a thing for people getting fired. You want Eric fired, Zak fired, Fernando fired, Hartley fired over at STR...
I would blame Horner yes, that's exactly were the problem lies at McLaren. Nobody knows who's exactly responsible for this mess they're currently in. The are always talking about problems they're aware of, but how about fixing them?
It's easy to blame the public facing members of F1 teams, but unless info leaks out we don't often know what the internal dynamics of a team are. It's likely a fine line between success and failure in F1. Always easy to blame somebody like Horner as that's part of his job, taking the flak when the team doesn't do so well.
As for McLaren's problems ? I think the team need to accept that they are not what they once were and to get back to that they are going to have make some pretty radical decisions and stop with the PR games. Because it just adds more pressure onto the team when success fails to materialise. If McLaren are looking towards the new engine regulations (like Red Bull are) then now is the time to make whatever changes are necessary to ensure they have the best possible base to build from for the 2021 season. I can't honestly see McLaren winning a race in terms outright pace in the current engine formula. Unless Renault finally get the PU caught up with Ferrari and Mercedes and McLaren deliver on having the best chassis on the grid, rather than spinning that they have.
I'm a fan of McLaren but they are lost, they need somebody who can galvanise the team and move them forward. Rather than expecting things to come right just because they are McLaren. If things don't change, I can see them in a similar rut to Williams. Though I'm not sure if the McLaren owners will bankroll the F1 team if it continues to underperform for years to come.
