No, he was on a quali lap till he reached those cars in the back straight.

Speculation about Vettel completing the lap or not doesn't change anything. On the team radio, Vettel said something like "I am going flat out down the straight, they are doing eighty miles or eight kilometers an hour on the back straight. Sorry but I couldn't do it. Three cars, no chance....."

This doesn't sound like the words of a driver who was about to give up. At the end of S2, Vettel had done the exact same time as Verstappen in P1.

In any case, those cars were very extremely slow in 330km'h section of the track

The thing there was that both cars yielded as they should, but they did so at either side of the road, leaving Vet with a slow moving chicane. Difficult to appoint blame there.

Not as they should, one of them was on the racing line obviously, plus they were very very slow.

Can't recall if Hamilton ever had. A race long fight with Bottas before but I just can't see Bottas resisting the hammertime. If he does then fair play to him.

Canada incidence was 100% Ferrari race engineer's fault for sending Vettel behind a *train* of cars. Who do you want to punish there? all 5 drivers in front of Vettel? Get real.

Also, if it was other way around, i.e if Vettel went out in order to evade Renault driver, you guys would want Sainz's head on a stick. LOL///!!

I doubt it. Last time, Hamilton and Rosberg were competing for the title over the season. This time, Bottas isn't competing as he's realistically too far back in the points. Hamilton will be ok with finishing second to Bottas. Hamilton's focus is on Vettel - finishing ahead of Vettel in as many races as possible is the key.

Kudos to Sainz for his approach. Seemed very fair and empathetic.

As for the race, Vettel will finish at least third which, if the Quali gap is representative, is where he would likely finish anyway.

Will be interesting to see if the Mercs can avoid collecting each other. Wouldn't be the first time here...

Bottas knows he is the second driver. It will be a clean start. If Hamilton has a better start I don't expect any problem.

I'm late to the party, just finished watching qualy.

Wow!, many drivers were going 4-wheels-off to set fast laps and that's relatively normal, but I saw several drivers choose to go 4-wheel-off at the turn-in to a corner, not just the exit. That's the driver saying "the FIA will not enforce the rule so it doesn't exist". Don't like this situation myself, but if that's the incentive the drivers are given, then hard to argue with the driver decision.

I think you're right and most Hamilton guys would tell you they'd be happy for Bottas if he got the win this weekend. This has always been a strong circuit for him. Vettel is starting on the back foot and on the wrong tires for being that far down the grid, if I were you I'd be more worried about that than about Hamilton losing seven points to his teammate.
