Williams idea wasn't only for the keel it also had the objective of eliminating the venturi efect that the conventional noses have, which reduces the downforce on the wing in the area bellow the nose cone.

I think the nose looks like a step backwards.

McLaren has permanently new noses and wings.
A few months ago the had a nose wich was so low that the second element of the wing was divided by it. It was a litle bit like a front diffusor with the wing. Only a tunel was left. I think this was the nicest arrangement.

So, after $11,298,475.24 worth of development and 82 missed potential championship points...
they finally decided that there was nothing wrong with the MP4-17D front end after all!

Newey sure is the most expensive engineer in F1... and not just his salary.

hehe..... cheap shot there joseff but i guess the figures kind of back it up.
that is the problem i guess when trying to take quantum leaps in performance. Interesting article on Bob Bell from Renault in an F1 mag at the moment where they ask him is it still easy to stuff up when designing a F1 car and he says definitely yes, its all about taking calculated risks.. :)

Mclaren has new exhaust pipe covers. Their edge is now inclined forward, it's no longer straight

This morning DC and Wurz were using the wide nose.

No, they had the old nose in Belgium. This is from this weeks monza testing. They propably didn't have the balls to pull the Williams and bring the new nose on the track without testing it first.
By the way you chose a hell of a race to miss. I'd say among the best three races of the year.

Mclaren's wing

Post

Hey guys, maybe it's because of the shade present on the picture of the Mclaren but are there only 2 elements on the front wing instead of the "usual" three element front wing they've used throughout this year?

Monza is a low downforce track. Just look at the rearwing they have at monza. They did use a three element version in silverstone before the testban:

hey all, currently chasing a video of the race so i should get to watch it this week.. shame the anteater nose didnt work, looked unique...
interesting that both Mclaren and Williams designed very different front nose designs to catch Ferrari and now they have both resorted back to a more traditional design.
