That Ferrari sounds like vacuumcleaner on the onboard and radio.

The way Wolff's jaw dropped when Bottas got "pole" / P2 i think it's fair to deduct that Mercedes absolutely expected to get beaten by Ferrari

What did Bottas do at the last sector? He had oversteer 2 times, but still improved much. Did not only surprise Toto. :)

Bottas was 2 tenths faster in S3 but 2 tenths slower in S1 compared to Vettel. S2 made the difference.

Sauber and Haas.
Only two Mercedes powered cars in the top ten though.

Is this a case of having all your eggs in one basket?

Compared to Ferrari engined cars is a totally different scenario.
Always find the gap then use it.

Sad day for me with Lewis. Congrats to Vettel though, and well played by Bottas.

Was Vettel faster in S3 in his first run than in his second?

Yeah, the counter shown a yellow S3.

Maybe he took it easy on the double apex corner, that's a tricky one.

Thank you as well. :)

Not a big difference. Bottas improved massively then, if he was 2 tenths faster. A little moment of magic.

No doubt, on the moment i thought he was over driving a bit but i guess not.

I'll wager it was the hydraulic problem that caused Lewis to run off, not the other way round.

The story about how bumping over the kerb caused hydraulic issues is not a clever one. There's also been some speculation about a broken suspension causing gearbox problems, even though the car was not leaning to one side. The only plausible angle is that the problem was nascent on his previous lap, causing him to go off, and then it manifested fully on the next lap, causing him to drop out of qualifying.

I thought the same. That's why I was at least as surprised as Toto at the end.
