2019 pre-season testing likely to be moved to Bahrain

Post

AMuS (shortened)
Winter tests before the 2019 season are to be moved from Barcelona to Bahrain. The teams want to vote on the date before the Hungarian GP. A majority decision is sufficient. FIA and Liberty have already given the go-ahead.

The first week of testing starts on Monday, February 18, 2019 and ends on Thursday, February 21, 2019. The second test phase will start on Tuesday, February 26, 2019 and will run until Friday, March 1, 2019.

Up to now, the higher costs have always argued against Bahrain. The route is six hours by plane from the factories. This increases the price and delays the supply of parts. Liberty, however, promised to pay part of the freight costs for the teams. In return, however, the teams must promise "open" test drives.

This means that screens in front of garages should be banned. The usual game of hide-and-seek is to come to an end. The cars are supposed to be the stars at the premiere performance. Liberty also wants to make the test runs more attractive for television in order to better prepare the fans for the season.

totally rubbish. we already had this in 2014.
maybe makes sense next year, but only because those Melbourne guys need to put the GP so early because of their city s timetable.

Good move. I am not sure what purpose the non-representative weather and track temperature offer in Barcelona in the cold winter months. At least, Bahrain at that point in the year offers perfect and more representative track conditions. There is no danger of losing testing time like teams lose when it rains in Winter at Barcelona. All in all, a good move.

DHL or UPS could open a high-speed air logistics channel between the factories in UK CH IT and the track Bahrain. Teams have parts flying in every few hours.
