Dan has seen the progress of Renault from the other side of the field. He knows where they were in relation to Red Bull, and where they are now in relation to RB.
He must think the chase is on and Renault are gaining or he probably would have stayed at RB, if as Horner says they agreed to a 1 year contract.

He probably also knows where the Red Bull is clipping time off the Renault, so can guide them somewhat in their search.
He is no fool and would want to know their future development plans before jumping ship.

Hulk and Ricc is right up there as a pairing. Is there a stronger partnership on the grid?

It’s interesting that Ricc has made his decision after the Honda news came and then some new style front wings were tried in Hungary.

Given the phenomenal front end on the Red Bull, will the new regs compromise Newey next season? (I’m sure he will find a way around it in the end like he always does!)

Wild speculation on my part but thought it was worth asking some of you technical guys.
But he hasn't found a way around it since 2013

He helped keep a Renault engine near the podium for four years. CC 2, 4, 2, 3 therein.

Sainz saying the PU will be strong next year. Maybe there's some legs in that coming from Sainz. I wouldn't have even bothered to share the article if Abiteboul has said it

Do those figures include engine build development on the 4? or is that considered a separate budget?
It would look far different if engine 'cost' is removed.

All the PUs will be stronger next year so I have no faith in his words. Indeed he must be praising because if not his first season in Mclaren will be tough.

Those lists don't really work as a comparison on their own. All the top teams have a different structure.
For instance, Mercedes and Ferrari build their own PU and I don't think those costs are in this chart while for RedBull they are costs. Another big part of F1 teams is their marketing department. Mercedes runs their own but Ferrari has a deal with Philip Morris for that whole area. And then there is HAAS without a factory and Toro Rosso that shares a lot of facilities with RedBull (like marketing, drivers development, etc etc)

A better list would be a combination of budget with the amount of engineers working there on how many departments they develop themselves (gearboxes for instance, HAAS, F1, STR and Sauber just lease them, McLaren, RedBull, Williams and Ferrari build their own and Mercedes themselves have part of the work outsourced to Xtrac) or do they run their own tunnel or do they rent one. Especially FI is very good at how to run a team as efficiently as possible.

Right, it is the truth but is isn't saying anything new. What you really want to know is can they generate more increase than everyone else. Which is what we've seen from Ferrari, having caught and passed Merc. I'm concerned if the Renault PU division has the budget to out develop the likes of Merc and Ferrari. I know they'e gone out and hired some of the Ferrari and Merc people but is that enough ?

I think those numbers don't tell the whole story. From Forbes for 2016 ...

You can see Renault has the chassis in Enstone and the PU in France so they report separately. Ferrari in 2016 reported their numbers as 1 lump sum and Merc it looks like have followed Ferrari since. I believe that Renault upped their game since.

I suspect that income from AMG HPP Is more or less the PU’s delivered to the four teams plus some F3 engines. For Renault France it might just be lots of formula Renault and E deals. In 2016 they had little revenues from RedBull (works deal) and only their own team.

The cost for the PUs for the season have dropped to 10M from 30M so those Revenues has changed alot.
