If you wanted an illustration of how deeply dysfunctional F1 governance is, this is a pretty damn good example. That, and how the grandee manufacturer teams have created enough FUD about the engine regulations to scare off any prospective new engine designers and manufacturers.

I guess this thread can be renamed to 'Racing Point Force India' :)

The name of the company is now officially changed to 'Racing Point UK Limited', which is probably what they'll enter as next year. Terrible choice to be honest.

But the drivers are the peg for engines, so I would not think so, but hope so as they can then recover some

PU are not connected with drivers (example Sainz when he joined Renault last year)

That's probably going to stir up a hornets nest amongst the teams that don't swap drivers (I think it's probably likely Stroll will move from Williams and Occon the other way in season). Worst case ? Teams ignore PU regulations and protest qualification results when they get hit with grid drops, F1 looks silly. The rules can probably cope with a single driver moving, but perhaps not multiple drivers all at once as might happen here. We'll just have to wait and see.

From the sporting regs:-

23.3 a) Unless he drives for more than one team (see 23.3(c) below), and subject to the additions described below, each driver may use no more than 3 engines (ICE), 3 motor generator units-heat (MGU-H), 3 turbochargers (TC), 2 energy stores (ES), 2 control electronics (CE) and 2 motor generator units-kinetic (MGU-K) during a Championship season. ...

So, is it the same team? not if they do not allow them point I suppose. So turn em up :D

23.3 a) Unless he drives for more than one team (see 23.3(c) below), and subject to the
additions described below, each driver may use no more than 3 engines (ICE), 3 motor
generator units-heat (MGU-H), 3 turbochargers (TC), 2 energy stores (ES), 2 control

season.

...

23.3 c) If a driver is replaced at any time during the Championship season his replacement will
be deemed to be the original driver for the purposes of assessing power unit usage.

Since Racing Point UK Limited F1 team hasn't used any PU elements this year, or received any points or prize money, I would argue that whomever takes those seats should start at zero. Meaning, they have 3 PU for the rest of the year.
