Lewis hit some traffic (hulk and alonso) in the final sector and lost quite a few tenths, so they have more to come for qualifying. Ferrari also also not using their updates because they didn't have enough time to evaluate them in the dry due to the wet conditions yesterday.

They actually removed the new floor for fp3. Seriously.

If the new floor was not working they would not have had enough time to change it and gather all the other data they need due to the reduced running yesterday. The sensible thing was to go with what they know

Raikkonen also lost half a second to Vettel in the final sector though (for a reason I didn't see), so there was plenty of room for improvement as well

I strongly suspect Ferrari's new floor is for 2019.
They've got little to gain from developing new parts for this seasons car. Except for a miracle, both championships are done.

I think the relatively green track conditions aren't favoring Merc's setup at the moment. I wouldn't count them out though for pole. As we've seen before Lewis does some amazing things in quali when the pressure is on. I'd like to see some good racing at the front either way!

As much as I'd like to see a close qualifying, I suspect Merc have this over the Ferraris by at least 0.300

Ferrari no longer have the mega boost in qualifying and this is the key imo.

I dunno.. Lewis was struggling a little. I don't think he was sandbagging either. He would love to complete the grand slam of fastest in practice, pole, race win, and fastest lap if he could.
