F1 is looking for our input, chime in.

Post

Looks like F1 has another questionaire looking for fan input on television graphics and whether we'd find them helpful or not. Like a lot of things F1, I think this is missing the mark on the core issue and looking to "solve" the problem in a way no one asked for it to be solved. Just like the insistence on changing the Qualy format last year.

Take the Poll Here Before it's too late. :)

Don't get me wrong, having more access to car data is a good thing IMO, but how it's presented to the audience has a potential for disaster. For example, the question on pit stop strategy undercut/overcut likelihood of success may be a nice thing but then again, that's what experienced commentators are already there to talk about.

It seems like a big ad for AWS. The only potentially useful one is the second one and that's only if it's from realtime data.

I agree, it is an ad. Hence the solution looking for a problem.
Who would AWS be paying to? FIA? Liberty? FOM?
Rivals, not enemies.

They already have access to our input on a second-by-second basis just by looking at the forums. If the F1 powers-that-be aren't regularly monitoring this site then they're just plain stupid.

So, does this mean they are looking into teaming up with Amazon for other things, such as p.p view?

Yes, I know its a hell of a jump, but they seem already well intertwined

Maybe they can't handle the truth?

I wonder how valuable our opinion actually is, as members of a forum where the most users are big fans of F1 and its technical aspects. I mean, they'll probably get wayyy more viewership by pleasing the average casual viewer that's impressed with "halo unsynchronized telemetry" than by pleasing the ones that are interested in rake angles and turbulent jet ignition.

Great point, we are the minority and are not the 'new' sales demographic...
However, I'd bet a million dollars that Brawn would be more interested in the chatter of the F1 Technical forums than looking at the mindless drivel in the comments sections of Motorsport, JAonF1, F1i, GP247 et al...

Next you'll be telling me the F1 teams monitor this site for technical input.

This is an open-source F1 development site. They may laugh at our fanciful theoretical suppositions, but only an idiot would totally disregard them.

It does seem to me that they are looking for approval for what they have already decided rather than input as to what the decision should be.

They know what they are going to do and just hope enough loud voices agree long enough. How many of the loud voices will stick around long term... remains to be seen

Well, I can't stand a single thing they've done. They've added nothing to the sport, and I mean no offence to our American F1 loving brethren, but it's not all about America. Perhaps now more than ever before..?

Its where the uncollected cash is. They would be remiss for not doing it, but, as you, I do not like the way they are going about it, and they are seemingly losing the long standing core 'fan'

They're looking for the new fan base. 'We', the die-hard F1 fanatic, are not included in that demographic it would seem. Good luck to them. I watched less races this year than ever before and I didn't care... I'm not sure I will ever go to a live race ever again. I wouldn't have said that 3 years ago...
