I may be mad Phil, but for me this will likely be my only F1 trip this year. I found flights from Ireland for €30 and it's much better value for spectators than a race weekend - I think it's about €15-20 at the gate to get in, with better access to grandstands etc., and 8 hours of F1 action each day!
Okay, I stand corrected. Now that I considered that, it does make perfect sense.
Truth is; When I visited Spa last year, I did it only as a day trip to maximize cost-efficiency and get the most from the little time the cars drove around the track. On a general race weekend, that is Friday practice with two 90 minute sessions and the GA ticket for friday-only costs a fraction of what you would pay for the entire weekend or saturday/sunday. Another plus on Fridays is that there are less people than on Saturdays and Sundays.
Considering how much running cars do at pre-season testing, the few people that attend and the cost, it does sound like the perfect opportunity to visit. Unfortunately, Barcelona is just a little too far away for me.
