Honda Power Unit Hardware & Software

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

This would be a failure in itself. A massive one at that.

Speculation.

Introduction-level new concepts can perform worse than evolved versions of old concepts.

Lets see how testing goes.

That may be an issue, however I don't see iterative changes as bringing big problems. Not on year 3 of the current spec at least. Frankly I'm more concerned about Renault's reliability than I am Honda's.

Honda wants "no grey areas" in F1 engine regulations

We were the ones who came in the later time, so we were behind from the point of view of knowledge and understanding," he said.

"So, what Honda thinks is we want to burn all of those grey areas. We want them to stop - no grey areas is our hope.
**

"We did so much trial and error and we studied a lot from that. From that we can have some steps forward, and that can be connected to next year."

A lot of the most significant discoveries tend to be found as side effects of a trial and error approach.

There are always more wrong answers than right ones, so whittling away the wrong ones give the right ones the chance to reveal themselves.

Machine learning is dependent on good input, and there will always be a trial and error phase before the input can be good enough for machine learning to take over.

Machine learning won't help much.. yet.. it is not mature enough.
Check out robo-race. A human will still beat them around a simple course, much less failure analysis.

Deep learning is sorta different, but mostly statistics if I understand it.. not much related to designing engines? I don't know..

OMG, what a silky engine texture when all cylinders are firing!!!

The sound is fascinatingly similar to the bark of the RA16X-series...

Agreed. And also, correct me if I'm wrong, but it's also the first time we've heard a Honda PU running on all 6 cylinders while stationary. Usually it remains in the cut cylinder mode until moving.

Great sounds coming from the engine. So keen for testing to start!!!

I think on low rpm it still sounds like cylinder deactivation is working?!
