There is a cost to every modification - the gains must out perform the losses for the part to go on the car.
yeah I assumed that it would, but I guess I didn't put my point accross that well, I was rushing...

My point is that putting the mini wing there would disrupt the airflow in that area, which is completely opposite to why the sidepod extension was put there in the first place (to clean up the turbulent airflow as I understand it). So effectively, the sidepod extension has become an upright/endplate of the mini wing and cannot perform its original function. Is this correct?

AMuS report that the Williams has suffert all season from an aerodynamic flaw to the front wing. When the wheels are tuned in the flow gets interrupted and the front downforce breaks down. Apparently a new wing has now fixed the problem. Williams have had so many screw ups in their aero department that it becomes hard to count them.

What is being described appears to be quite straightforward. It is puzzling why such a basic problem has taken so long to root out.

Here is hoping that we can make real progress for the rest of the season.

The type problem that was described by Patrick with the front wheels interrupting air flow over other areo-surfaces seems to be one of the most basic problems associated with aero-packages in F1. It is something that all teams have to deal with on every single car that they produce. It is difficult to understand how a problem like this can go undetected for so long. Surely, this problem has negated much of the development work carried out on the car as it being based on false or inaccurate data.

Can anyone offer an explanation to how this aero problem could have been mis-diagnosed?

The new wing has not resolved the problem of understeer with the FW30 that both drivers have been complaining about all season.
Williams and proud of it.
