This forum contains threads to discuss teams themselves. Anything not technical about the cars, including restructuring, performances etc belongs here.
AMuS Live Ticker reports James Key will start at McLaren on March 25th.
Well that is great news!
Really good news. Sky are reporting that some are claiming McLaren aren't as happy with the car as they would have expected.
Sky is all about drama, but even if that is the case, this is a brand new concept so it will take time to mature. Remember Sauber last year, where they were in the first 4-5 races and where did they end up at the end in terms of performance?
They were discussing on F1TV how some people believe that yesterdays time from Sainz was a "low fuel glory run" even if they did want a "glory run" surely they wouldn't do it on the first day?

Doing a glory run on day one with a car you barely know, on a ''green'' track surface is pointless. Alonso did a glory run last year, at the very end of day 8, just before track was officially closed, so I don't see the point of doing it at day 1.

Morale. The team needs to see this happen.

It's all bulshit. I'm quite certain that the whole "story" came from that brazilian journalist who said McLaren is slow, according to her "engineers on the trackside". Will Buxton picked it up and we are here now.
Anyone who watched yesterday could see that Sainz was doing 1:20:4 on C2, doing decent length stints and was running a really low DF setup. And for his supposed glory run, what kind of glory run has 10+ laps done? He did a hot lap, slow lap, hotlap, then started going through the pits testing starts. If he was doing a glory run, he wouldn't have fuel for so many laps after his supposed glory run. Ridiculous.

The team will know is pointless as it does not represent real scenario, but maybe you are right, maybe is just for build up of confidence and motivation

Someone made an interesting point, I can't remember if it's on this thread or somewhere else. Maybe McLaren wanted a benchmark time on day 1 to see the improvements they make by day 8, when we'll probably see the bulk of the low fuel runs. His time was set towards the end of the day....
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.
@2018 Singapore Grand Prix drivers press conference.
they might to an empty tank test at the end of last day like last year to know if what they read in the data is correct with the fuel in the car, its normal, on day 1 doing low fuel is useless,... they know how many seconds the extra kilos take.
if they are not that low fuel, and i suspect they are NOT.... they might just make the top 3 and fight redbull..... honestly im hugely encourage this year contrary to the last 4 years. They really look good.
Newey always sais if a car looks fast, normaly its fast and the Mclaren car this year does look very nice....

It's amazing what you can do when your car is not fundamentally flawed.
