It seems from most cars so far that these tyres are about as durable as Parmesan. It seems there is a steady decline in pace almost from lap 1, evident in both Mercedes and Ferrari pace. Tbh I haven’t been keeping up with others enough to verify. Anyone have any thoughts?
Track temperature (indirectly) kills the rubber.

Also last year hypersoft (aka c5) did not perform any better than ultra (c4) on this track
Not an ideal track for Hypersofts (C5) in any way, 100% percent sure it won't be at the GP.
Even the C4 isn't a sure thing to be allocated for Barcelona.
I would say that C3 and C2 can be the best ones for this track.

Mercedes doing a deviation from their routine of previous years by using all rubber compounds and chasing faster lap times. They were very happy with just running the mediums the last 2-3 seasons in pretesting.

Whatever triggered this change of program.....it is certainly a different approach. This might indicate more than any laptime that they are less sure about where they stand.

Just a side question, since so many people were adamant that the report was correct that Toto and James left to go back to England, has anyone seen them today?
I'm wondering about the same. I couldn't watch the test from this morning, so I'm very curious.

Well, since everyone says that they are behind (and literally everyone), we can say that they are clearly behind. I was surprised as well that they fitted the C4 on.

Preseason testing means nothing. First sign is Friday free practice, but even then, we're not sure what true pace of the cars are.

Quali on Saturday we will finally know.

Pre-season only tells if the cars keeps running without breaking down unexpectedly

Does anybody know what a theoretical lap time was for Hamilton on that C3 lap that he got blocked by Kubica as he was fastest through the first and second sector up until then. His laps on C4 and C5 tyres have not really been impressive at all (but they could be playing around with engine modes / fuel loads), however, I'd be interested to compare his C3 time with Leclerc who has done a 1.18.0. Leclerc was 4 tenths faster than Hamilton on C2's (18.4 vs 18.8) so I wonder if it would be similar on C3's.
1:15.13 was the predicted time

completely wrong
at least last four years that I attended personally at the track, If you watched with some material inside your head, you had a pretty precise idea of the pecking order at the begin of the season. then later on, after much developing, is another question

In reality testing means nothing...I remember last year when even in Q3 in Australia after the first runs we thought Mercedes and Ferrari were so close...and then came Hamilton's last run boom...half a second plus faster than Ferrari! But come the race and almost the first half of the season and Ferrari were pretty much faster! But that has to do with development and nowadays the top 3 teams at least are able to develop rapidly!
This year though Ferrari seem fastest everywhere...I've been watching F1 TV these 4 days and their car looks so nicely balanced and stable...Mercedes on the other hand to me seems even on today's low fuel runs (or low fuel we think) like having to push beyond the car's limits to get that lap time! Not to mention the softer tires to get about the same time as Ferrari on harder tires! :?
One more thing that looks nice for the 2019 season is that all the teams look closer than last year...even the midfield looks a bit closer to the top 3! Let's see... [-o<

Mercedes smashed the opposition in Australia, then Ferrari had the fastest car for the first half of the season. What from last year's testing proved with precision that it would be the case?

I'm amazed the bookies keep getting it wrong too. It's worth tens of millions for them so I can't imagine why they keep missing these super-obvious facts.
