He didn't cut the chicane:
Hamilton often cuts between curve 13 and chicane, especially when he returns to the pits, but we do not find it is the case of his best inter-time in S3.
He cut the chicken. As Alonso would sayFittingMechanics wrote: ↑26 Feb 2019, 14:11I'm willing to bet he cut the chicane. What would be the point in blitzing in one sector while still finishing 2-3 seconds off the pace. This is especially true as he did his fastest time in S3, so it's not like he knew he was 1 second ahead and let off gas before the finish.
There is so little proper information and journalists will surely take this and run with it. I am just waiting for them to reverse their predictions about Mercedes.

Assuming he didn't cut the chicane and lets say he could also improve 0.4 in sector 1 and another 0.4 in sector 2 he would be 1,4 seconds faster compared to last years qualifying. I won't buy it. The cars have less DF compared to last year and mercedes improving a overal 1,4 seconds a lap would mean they have build a rocket engine or made some amazing aero package.dans79 wrote: ↑26 Feb 2019, 12:13Hamilton's sector 3 time is within the realm of reasonable. It's 0.596 seconds faster than his best qualifying time from last year, and only 0.429 faster than Ric's who had the best. Given 9 months of development, different tires and weather conditions, it's possible, unless someone has actual proof he cut the chicane.
You can't just assume all three sectors are going to improve, there's a good chance if he had pushed that hard in the first two sectors it would have taken all the life out of the tires and sector 3 would have been slower.yener wrote: ↑26 Feb 2019, 14:31Assuming he didn't cut the chicane and lets say he could also improve 0.4 in sector 1 and another 0.4 in sector 2 he would be 1,4 seconds faster compared to last years qualifying. I know they have a great PU, but such an improvement is non realistic, especialy giving the fact they choose te wrong FW concept
