One could also argue that after that LeC lap he was making personal bests on 1st and 2nd sectors before entering the pits so it is clear that we was not on quali mode.
I only read "personal best second sector" there and it doesn't talk about 1st sector. I am not arguing about the quali mode as I am guessing neither Ferrari nor Mercedes are using it.
You are right, I read it wrong. It was only personal second best. Still my point stands you can't make a personal best at Barcelona without any battery power. Ofc he could've made a very slow first sector to recharge but I think if that was the case people in autosport wouldn't get excited for that second lap. It must've been a fast lap. Still it's a shame you were pedantic about a detail and didn't address any of my other real points :(
Well, thanks to Andy, he did that when he said, I took just the best available times for both cars. Not that I ignored Leclerc's C2 lap. At this point, it is all just fun to be done as we will never ever know what the reality is. There will be fallacies in my way of looking at lap times and comparing them.

Could this not be done when the track is closed?

I imagine it's part of their grand prix weekend "simulation", i.e. they do the full end-to-end procedure. They might not realise the grid procedure is wrong if they don't run the car.

Rookie driver, first F1 race. Apparently he stalled it so perhaps it wasn't that bad of an idea to go through the motions.

Just for reference, here are top Winter Testing times for 2018.

This could probably be used as reference to deltas of team's fastest laps this year if we assume each respective team runs a similar test to last year.

2nd crash for Gasly during testing. Wonder if it was driver error again or a car failure.

Isnt this Gaslys second crash?
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

Yes… and by the look of it, he won't have a chance to crash again today. That car seems to have a lot of damage.

Possible that his rear wing broke off. Reports of debris before the crash site, and no rear wing debris visible around the car.
