If Leclerc is 5 seconds ahead of Bottas then the Mercedes is faster than the Ferrari :o :o
But Lewis is 20 seconds faster than Bottas over a race distance.

The Merc engine has by far the best sounds. Especially those lovely downshifts.
Love also the sound of Honda’s wastagate.
The worst is Ferrari and Renault, both sound like vacuum cleaners

I willing to bet a high 1m14.xxx to be pole time this year. More like, 1m14.8xx.
Then I fear you could lose money. :D I think pole won't be better than mid 1.15, being optimist. They'll use C3 or C4
on qualifying and the air temp is gonna be much higher, so less downforce leading to slower lap times
Goodness, it's impressive how this thread escalated. More than 20 pages in one day :wtf: It will take me sometime to catch up

If you see the best times posted in 2018 Winter Testing, almost every team did better times in Spanish GP qualifying, except for probably one team. Almost everyone, other than Mercedes, posted their best times using HyperSoft and in winter testing, but they posted better times using SuperSofts in qualifying. And yes, all of the usual parameters like temperatures and other stuff did applied back then too. My math is purely based on that, which is obviously can differ when the time comes.

The thing is, more often than not, testing times are better than the pole. I guess this year could be another one of those. But if not, I don't think they can improve more than 1s over last year. we'll see

Race sim comparison between W10 and RB15 (although it was abrupt).

- Average of first 14 laps on C3 for RB15 was 1m24.333
- There was a drop of 2 seconds within 14 laps for that stint for RB15. An average drop of 0.142 of a second per lap.
- Average of first 14 laps on C3 for W10 was 1m23.618.
- There was a drop of 1.5 seconds within 14 laps for that stint for W10. An average drop of 0.107 of a second per lap.

- Average of first stint for W10 (18 laps) was 1m23.817
- There was a drop of 2 seconds for the full first stint for W10, with 20 laps. An average drop of 0.100 of a second per lap.

Across the first stint of 14 laps, RB15 was slower by an average of half a second on the same compound against W10.
While there is only a drop in time for RB15, lap after lap (except for one lap), W10 keeps coming coming down on lap time often through the stint.

If this data is representative I guess we will have again a Ferrari-Mercedes battle like in the first half of 2018..

I was sceptical when I first heard they blamed the wheel for this accident, this video clearly shows the tyre come off the rim. Weird though, I can't recall ever seeing a wheel fail like this without hitting something.

thanks for posting

Wow! You can actually hear the wheel explode as well as see a plume of substance jet away from the wheel.
It's almost certainly a manufacturing quality control issue.

Ferrari has been running the Merc style cooling wheel. Its possible that they might not quite have the hang of making them robust yet.

Not heard anything today, yesterday the team seemed confident that they would be running today. Maybe parts are still on the way to the circuit ?

I'm sure now I have said that, Max will roll out the garage any minute now.
