Gasly spoilt two days of Verstappen & Redbull.

Anyone know what this is about?

Autosport:
10:22 Hamilton's back in after that near-miss, he returns to the garage.

I believe they mean that the lap was a 'near miss' for setting the fastest time.

GAS deserves to drive Renault 11 but not RB15

Some observations
The cars that set the quickest laptimes are not necessarily those that set the shortest race times (full race)
Having the fastest/best car does not mean one of the drivers will win the championship, nor (less so) does it mean the car will win the constructors

Even assuming the cars tested are those that rock up for Oz,
All in all, we can take little from this other than most of the cars will be closely bunched into two groups, and reliability will probably not play a big part
(but it was fun)

as for low top speed: no one considering the possibility that with new rule the mercedes unique low rake design causes a drag issue?
of course noone run with party mode during testing but mercedes had a new concept of PU. It would be not so wise to run massively under power for all the 8 days (they had low top speed all 8 days) without really testing PU reliability..

They could have brought Kvyat back, but hey that's just me. Now that RB don't have reliability problems, their new driver wrecks the car

So people

It's fine to do some conjecture based on what we see in testing. We all do that.

However, please refrain from making conclusions about the person behind the post. Person X saying team A is fastest does not make said person biased. Please discuss why you think team A or B is fastest or why they aren't. Play the post, not the poster.

Have fun and a great weekend!

could be, they cant duck
Bigger wing bigger penalty on the straights

If Toro Rosso can get into the 1:16's this easily, I'm confident that the Red Bull will be very close to Ferrari and Mercedes but they are still a bit behind them in terms of pace I'm afraid.

I thought a higher raked car had higher drag which leads to low top speeds in them.
i have heard frequent comment about how RBR's rake has made their car low on top speed

I think it's less draggy potentially. They still have the rear of the car very low when running down the straight as they run quite a soft rear.

Yes, that's basically a good conclusion. Top 3 teams definitely having more in the tank. Mercedes showing a bit of pace should also not be viewed more as a warning signal. We'll have to see where everybody is in Melbourne. I do think we can carefully say all cars are fairly reliable. There were issues, but nothing that can't be fixed in time.

(who else agrees F1 nowadays is too reliable?)
