And Hamilton kept Verstappen just outside of the DRS range. Very skillful

Leclerc only ended up in that position due to strategy. Would be unfair if that strategy then also cost him that point vs his team mate, especially given they were only fighting themselves for those points.
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II

In first stint ferrari did keep up, but something went a miss in 2nd stint. At first Vettel caught Lewis very fast... Then Seb fell off drastically in pace.

Oh God, the commentators this year, are apparently going to be way worse than before.

Again they seem to have completely forgotten that the gaps were caused by some drivers pitting way too early.

Can’t follow Ferrari’s thinking. They should have pitted one of their cars near the end to grab that fastest lap point. Bottas got that extra point so easily.

Great drive by Bottas, and a relief in the end for Lewis to finish second. The gap slightly flattering from Mercedes boxing Lewis way too early but he has the benefit of analysing the data to see why Bottas was fast today and apply it in the next one.

Valtteri Bottas enjoyed an impeccable race at Melbourne, starting his season with 26 points after also recording the fastest lap of the race. Lewis Hamilton and Max Verstappen finished in distant 2nd and 3rd places.

This one especially seeems silly, they had nothing to lose. Except if they thought even with new tyres they couldn't do it, which could be possible with a car as slow as this ferrari.

I think it's clear that the new front wing rules were a dismal failure. At least the extra point for fastest lap was interesting

Vettel had a clear issue and just like when he had a wonky steering wheel in Hungary in 2017 and was slow as hell Ferrari refused to let the faster car go.
