Charles Leclerc looked set for his first ever victory in Formula One until an technical issue brought an end to that hope 10 laps from the end. He still limped to 3rd, completing the podium along the Mercedes drivers.
If Ferrari will fail in Bahrain too, then we will hear standard comment like "we are going to bring very, very big upgrade on 1st Europe GP in Barcelona".
Which brings me to my next point, being on the second row in Bahrain isn't nearly as bad as being on the second row in Melbourne.
Draggy cars, slower on the straights, bigger DRS effect and if the changes expected out of front wing simplification works and helps following easier, then this track should be loaded with overtakes. That would take away the difficulty of starting from 2nd or 3rd row.
In Australia Merc were in a league of their own.
In Testing Ferrari looked on top (but not by the gap Merc were in Aus)
Now Bahrain, I would say its not too different to the circuit in Australia.
In Australia Turns 1, 2, 4, 5, 11, 12, 14, 16 are all fast corners.
In Bahrain Turns 2, 6, 7, 9, 11, 12, 13 all fast.
So even though Melbourne is a street circuit, its not like a normal street circuit.
The next thing I want to add is when it comes to performance in todays F1. The most crucial factor is getting the tyres in to the perfect operating window.
Now with such small windows, just think how important track temperatures are . remembering this and having a quick look on google at the temps now in Melbourne, we have highs this week of 31'c.
Temps this week in Bahrain are highs of 30'c so almost exactly the same as Melbourne.
Now we look at when Ferrari looked so good last month in Barcelona, the temps google is telling me they had were 18'c, 14'c, 18'c, 15'c for the final test. Thats so much cooler than in Melbourne and Barcelona.
I would say that the performance in Melbourne will be closer to Bahrain than the cold testing in Barcelona will be. The tyres now days are so important with the tiny operating windows that it cant be ignored when Melbourne and Bahrain are so similar in temperature. With track layouts I see the biggest difference being Bahrain just had more and longer straights.

I think one of the big traits of Melbourne is that it’s bumpy and low grip, Bahrain is not?
Not for nothing, Rosberg's Championship is the only thing that lends credibility to Hamilton's recent success. Otherwise, he'd just be the guy who's had the best car. — bhall II #Team44 supporter

Well, if a big update is needed it needs to be tested in CFD, manufactured, tested in Windtunnel and then brought to the car. This will take time and given Ligistics etc. the best place and time for it to happen is the first European Grand Prix. So there is a reason for the "standard" comment.
Please don't get me wrong, everyone is free to speak. But it's thursday, and since sunday all the talk is about Ferrari. And people gets mad about them receving such a big prize… well, almos every site or fórum, the main conversation and news are about Ferrari.

I agree. Please people, let's keep any conclusions and speculation about Ferrari for after the race. There is a whole midfield of razor edge competition for instance to talk about.

Well, I think it works, and should, both ways. In Winter Testing also, it was all about Ferrari, but in a positive way. So it is quite natural.

Ferrari's low performance is the biggest surprise. That's all. What esle can we say about Mercedes? They were, they are and they will be the best. Boring. We also knew that Williams will be a crap. And it is a crap. There is also not surprising that Mclaren is still weak, as Renault is. Maybe good Honda's performance with RBR car is quite interesting but at the end there is nothing more "hot" than Ferrari's weakness so discuss is how it is... in my opinion

Sorry, that mid-field battle is like, the crowd fighting outside for getting a ticket to enter a boxing match, while the show is, the boxing match between the star boxers.

You really are the helping, progressive kind, aren't you GPR-A?
I am a Ferrari disliker, but just reading a few of the posts above shows why Ferrari get extra payments. Its because they are talked about.
Mind, I bet we could get some mileage by excluding Ferrari racing for a year
