On to qualifying-

I don't think any of the top 3 hooked their laps. I think, Vettel was very cautious in S2. Leclerc definitely had time to gain in S3 and Hamilton could have been on the front row if he hooked up all his sectors.

Coming from a Vettel fan, I genuinely hope Charles wins tomorrow. I think it'll be a huge homage for Jules. I also just love Charles. I think he has a very very sane head on very young shoulders. People might think Vettel is the most annoyed man in Bahrain, and while I feel that's 90% accurate, I think a young Dutchman will be even more furious.

I just hope Seb focuses on Lewis tomorrow. He just needs to be cerebral this year and not emotional. I fully expected Charles to run him close but I still feel that if Seb runs his best (2010-13) he will ultimately get him and if Ferrari are the better car, then trump Lewis.
"Sebastian there's very, you're a member of a very select few.. Stewart, Lauda, Piquet, Senna, Prost, Schumacher, Fangio.. VETTEL!"

Can somebody tell me where Leclerc gained time on Vettel?
I would also like to see that. Also it would be interesting to see where mercedes was losing time. So it would be great if someone can post the data.

Leclerc is very quick. Vettel had the problem that in Q2 in his first run he ended up in traffic and had a big Lock up so he had to go out again and that meant he lost his second set of red tires for Q3. So just one run in Q3 and then you have to be a bit more cautious as that lap then HAS to be it.
Someone like Vettel requires a calm atmosphere around him to deliver his best. He was messed up by the team in Q2 by putting him in bad traffic and sort of put him off the rhythm.
No doubt that didn't help, but i do think Leclerc has shown more pace today, Vettel subsequent runs always came up a little short of the times Charles had done in the first try.

Still Vettel got the position his car deserves which isn't bad.

On another topic i really would like that graph comparing slow, mid and fast corners(and straights) but from today's Q.

Leclerc basically dominated Seb from Q1 to Q3. Seb had no answer for his pace today. When he did his 2nd run in Q2 the track was a lot more evolved and he still could not match or beat Leclerc's time. In Q3 he didn't stand a chance either.
Vettel should be worried imho. Leclerc is every bit as good as advertised.

So looking at Leclerc v Hamilton laps :

1) entry speed higher for Merc in slower and medium corners
2) exit speed higher for Ferrari
3) higher speed in high speed corners for Ferrari
4) Ferrari faster on straights

AmuS Qualifying Analysis:

https://twitter.com/Vetteleclerc/status ... 4167278597

Summary:

- Mercedes faster than Ferrari in every corner except turn 2

- Ferrari gained 4-5 tenths on Merc in the straights

- Adrian Newey stated that Ferrari's end-of-straight performance was similar to what was observed at Spa last year

- Difference in speed on straights likely due to overall downforce levels, rather than PU, as Haas lost 6 tenths to Ferrari on straights but is running one of the highest DF settings

- Mercedes thinks it is running more DF than Ferrari, which could help with tire life/stint length

- Tire management/strategy will be a major factor in outcome of race

Great stuff - and yeah, I thought the same when watching the tv: how come the Renault sounds so good in the McLaren? Maybe it also sounds good in the works car but I noticed it in the Macca.

Very different - and much better - sounding than all other engines.
That’s artificially done by a mic.
It’s mainly because in this hybrid era the engines don’t hit the 19.000/20.000 rpm; feels a bit sorry that because they sound like a sowing machine, the sound is beefed/pitched up to better it ..
So why only on the McLaren? Do they have a different mic setting /eq than the others?

It could be a spicy one. It may come down to whoever can go longest on the first stint.

That's in line with Juzh's video.

Lewis had a higher minimum speed than Lec at almost every corner. Lewis lost turn 2 because he had a worse turn 1 exit and that gave him a narrower line for turn 2 entry (as shown in the screenshot), forced Lewis to lift more and have more steering angle through T2.

Anyone notice the resemblance of Mattia Binotto and Dr. Wright of Sim City on SNES :D =P~
Heheh! Binotto's hairstyle reminds me of Mr. Burns in The Simson's. :D
But Mr Burns only has a small anount of hair around the side. Bald on top ?!
Its the way Binotto's hair is arranged in quite huge tufts on either side his face that's reminiscent of Mr Burns.

Not gonna lie, this s**t took way too long to record, edit and upload. don't get used to it :D
Is something off with the sound, or is Hamilton's car making strange noises upshifting into 7th/8th gears towards the end of the lap ?

Top job by the way. Thank you so much.

Hamilton's cornering looks fine apart from a few kicks under acceleration here and there, and the real difference looks to be stemming from straightline speed as he said. One other thing that caught my eye is, how deep Leclerc seems to brake into T1 compared to ham.

Charles beat Seb at the start of sector 2. Just looks like he trusts the car more and is pushing harder. The laps looks similar apart from Charles going deeper on the brakes, and less tentative through the medium speed stuff.

The Mercedes seems to have a more planted rear end, which alludes to the down force, but Ferrari is revving very high on the straights and keeps going. I see them 300 rpms higher than the other engines. There are times it doesnt accelerate as hard on the shorter straights in 8th gear but when they use DRS and the ERS, its more notable than in the Mercedes.
Maybe 7th and 8th gear biased towards exploiting the ERS and engine mapping?

Lewis says he can catch them in the race. I think he expects that when they dont have the DRS, they top speed trick wont be used for reliability reasons as the engine does go up a few hundred rpms higher than the others.
For Sure!!
