Can't wait for Autosports "where did McLaren's pace come from" video
Unfortunately, it'll be titled "Why McLaren has found pace", giving the impression they are in the know, whereas they haven't got a clue... Prime content, of course

Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Norris effectively ran a race from 15th to 6th. Sure, Hulk would have stayed ahead and probably Sainz, still that's from 15th to 8th on merit. Better fightback than Gasly in a RBR could manage. Then at the end could keep Kimi behind even though he had DRS.

Sainz also had a great start, was in P5 after first 200 meters but stayed in the middle and lost to Verstappen in T1/T2.

I'm sure that without a puncture Sainz would have been P5 or P6.

Or more accurately, "Why McLaren still back of midfield, despite lucky 6th place"

Anyone know how Norris got to 15th? Did he make a mistake or pushed out?

Could be any of them!
Maybe.....Bahrain 6th a result of 57 glory laps from headline chasing Mclaren with 'unstable rear' (Autosports only technical input!)

Ran off track through the chicane, not sure how or why, only see the tail end of it.

I havnt seen replays, but looked to me like he made it away from line ok, but got a bit swamped on both sides at first corner and played it safe

Before Vettel passed Norris, Norris asked the team whether he should race Vettel, they told him to not lose time against the Ferrari and that he will fight with Ricciardo. Norris did a level headed thing and raced ignoring Vettel (no swerving/covering the inside line). Great attitude.

Back in the game
I think Mclaren was better than RB here, maybe on same level with Renault & Haas

He's a clever lad! Super impressed by his attitude and desire to improve.

Totally agree. His SkyF1 interview afterwards was a breath of fresh air. Such humble and willing to learn answers are odd to hear from an F1 driver. Looked like Rosberg was impressed with what he heard. Well done Lando

They were significantly faster than Haas and a bit faster than Renault. Norris' pace on mediums was similar to Hulk's on softs. At the end Norris was on old softs from quali. There was no way Renault would have finished ahead of either McLaren's had Lando not lost places on the start.
