Sorry, I´m so proud of my little 1.6 8V VW Gol that I must shout it somewhere!

Last week, a 2-door BWM 318i (1998 model I think) could not escape from me in an empty 3am Buenos Aires freeway. Of course I had the slipstream advantage and a long long 5th gear ratio wich helped my piece of junk reach 200 Km/h.

138HP and 1300Kg vs 92HP and 900Kg. Same acceleration. Same top speed with slipstreaming.
A Bimmer guy that was furious! Furious!


PD: Someone please tell me how the hell would I stop that crap with rear braking drums if I need too!!!

Driving a '95 Cooper S works about 90mph, late 70s ferrari struggling past, both exited at same junction, he crawls away and disappears in a massive cloud of his own oil smoke.

Driving a '05 (new) cooper S works (lets say nicely into 3 digits...) and wondering whats wrong with the guys driving the lambos, porsches and ferraris - you pay that much money, make it worthwhile.

Wow, MrT, that's a lot of fun race cars you got there.

Anyway, I drive a blue 2000 Volvo v70 AWD. I know it's not fun to drive around town, but it works great when I load my two bicycles (Mountain and Road) and my canoe, or skis on top of it and go up to the Adirondack mountains to enjoy the weekends with friends or family; this happens every other week.
For going around town or to work, I have a 50cc Vespa (soon will be installing the Malossi 70cc kit for a little more help when I have a passenger on. Just have not gotten delivery of it yet, aghrrr.)
I also got a 1999 Mazda Miata which I bought for 100 dollars just two weeks ago. Now it's sitting in the garage, until January, when I'm gonna replace pretty much everything. That's gonna be next year's project. I wanna make it a decent yet cheap car to drive around the track in New Jersey. The chassis and body panels are decent, but the old owner has brutalized the engine, suspension, brakes, transmission...where do I stop? There's a few things wrong with it, no question, but it's gonna be fun working on it just as much as racing it afterwards.

I like the FS cars MrT. Nice one! .
I drove (and helped design) Hertfordshire's entry in 1999, abliet only in testing.
Did not get picked due to being too close to the car park kerbing on the corners.

For the record... My personal cars are Renault Clio 1.2 16v and a Ford Fiesta.

LOL. You haven't done it already with the DB9?

I work for a supplier to these car companies and get gars in for "testing" and "development". It's rare but a nice perk.
I am in love with the DBS. Handling is phenomenal and shows the great potential of the DB9 platform. Having said that, I have not driven anything close to it (such as Ferrari's etc...) to compare!

2007 Subaru STI, sans wing, pearl white. It is a perfect car. Goes like hell, gets decent mileage, seats five, good in the snow. Without the wing the Highway Patrol leaves me alone. Either that, or, turning 40 has its advantages?

My wife drives an 08 Toyota Tundra with the 5.7 V8, plus the TRD supercharger. Having 500 HP is great! Struggling for traction and getting 12mpg is not.


Just an update for you all, I just completed the Variable Geometry Turbo upgrade for my STI (new turbo and wastegate controller). I got the info from STI Japan, but was able to purchase the parts here and install them. The most difficult part was reading Japanese and getting the right code to have the ECU reflashed. My dashboard gismo tells me I now have 356 bph as opposed to 297 prior. I'm running 2.2 lbs more boost. Peak HP and torque are all being reached between 400 and 800 rpm sooner. Not bad, plus since all the parts are STI I'm still under warranty!

But I'm left wondering, does your wife work in some sort of field where she is required to drive a vehicle with a cargo bed and high payload/towing capabilities? Or does she simply drive it around empty all by herself for 97% of the time?

MX, you are right. She drives it empty 95% of the time; but, we live at 6000' elevation in central Califonia mountains and a 4WD vehicle is an absolute necessity. Her commute to work is less than one mile. We use the truck to tow our boat and to help take care of our rental properties in the area. Granted, it is an excessive behemoth, but I got tired of trying to fit appliances, carpet, and rental stuff in the back of my old wagon.

Extra cost for fuel and insurance sucks but the car is great
