McLaren MCL34

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

This is really shaping up to be a high downforce package instead of the medium one they raced so far.

These updates are truly extensive right from the front to the back of the car. Maybe they'll really find the 1 second that Sainz has said as their deficit to the top teams.

Would this point towards more aggressive packaging or just a bigger fin?

Nope they won’t. However even if they find 0.2/0.3 that’s huge as the top teams are bringing their update packages here too. Anything that makes that gap shrink is a great sign. There should be more to find for McL as it’s a new-ish compared to evolved models at Merc and Ferrari. If the gap to the front is 0.6-0.7sec/lap I’d be over the moon but realistically it’ll be around 0.9sec/lap in race trim which compared to last year would be a huge step up in performance

Found this picture that highlights most of the changes expected for Barcelona from the renders... There are a lot of changes indeed.
