Well all the bits appear in the "free" areas, all over, in all of the free areas...
I believe these bargeboard pieces are also for keeping the flow attached to the sidepods (and creating downwash over the sidepods, as you can see by the angled pieces), so the air goes around the undercut of the car and stays attached so that the air drives over the top of the diffuser (enhancing downforce further down the car).

They would be
much faster overall if they hadn't changed the rules!
No surprise they get faster when there are 500 people working on making them faster...
