Mercedes-AMG F1 W10 EQ Power+

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

On another note, Stroll said in the press conference after the race in Canada that there is a 0.2-sec per lap advantage between spec 1 and spec.2 PU ..
Had this figure is accurate and taking into account that is race circuit related how can it be translated in HP gain?
Does that take into account the degradation on the used PU-1?

Degradation is not that high in these engines like they were in Naturally aspirated times. We pretty much saw not much difference when Nico VS Lewis in 2014 to 2016 when on had an old engine and another had a new one. It was like 0.1 seconds a lap according to mercedes.

I've read that it was 0.2 in total and 0.1 of it cause it's a new engine.

I think this is correct.

Hamilton emphasised the new engine was mainly a reliability increase and a very minimal power gain and not to expect them to catch Ferrari"a speed with it.

That translates to at best maybe a 0.1 gain if that. Anything greater would not be referred to as a "very minimal gain"

It's all about context, I suppose. Considering the top teams spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to chase hundreths of a second, any update that brings you 1 tenth is pretty substantial.

It means they can run higher engine modes for longer during races. And race pace was where they were already the strongest in the field. Whilst qualifying might be a different matter, being faster on Sunday is always going to help.

So Mercedes have dropped the end plate notch, just when Ferrari have copied it? That's mean  :D

"unnecessary and also incorrect" apparently, goes the sense of humour fail

Oh but some kind person has cancelled it out with a positive. My hero, whoever you are \:D/

Were those fiddly bits at the bottom of those little wings there from the start? I don't recall these being quite as intricate.
