What a boring race

Sainz has been struggling with graining, so driving to protect the tyres. There's plenty of pace to use if ricciardo closes in, but I think they have it well covered.

Looks liks Ricciardo rejoined the track after all 4 off and forced Norris off

You have to feel for Norris, he hanged in there for more than 10 laps with a crippled car... But, we have to look at the positives... 6th for Carlos, 10th for Lando...

Both cars in the top 10... This is a great result regardless.

Can see Ricciardo getting a penalty for that. Such a shame for Lando, could have held on to 7th if he wasn't run off the track there.

Guys we were slow race pace wise i dont know why maybe the new suspension they need more tweak and setup but we were 2 s slower than a car who we did the same time in qualy

The penalty won't give us our 7th place back. This is bullshit. Today a deserved position was stolen from Norris.

So you were honestly expecting McLaren to keep up with a Red Bull after the update? I'm surprised you didn't say they should be faster than Vettel, since he was slower on qualifying.

It's clear that Mclaren is a better car than the rest of the midfield and we should lead by a large margin but due to bad luck or by kamikazi hits against our drivers these mediocre midfields are still close to us.

Yes, we were really about 1.3 seconds below Red Bull all race, but I have a feeling that was Sainz managing his tires and lap times.

We weren’t really fighting with RBR in this race, the race was against Renault and Gasly behind and from that stand point, they need what was needed.

If the question is why we were slower than RBR in the race, it is because they are definitely faster in the corners and when you are lifting and coasting, if you can maintain more speed through the corners, that is huge for lap time (you won’t be recovering as much in the straights since you have to look into fuel consumption and not stressing the engine unnecessarily).

But, we shouldn’t complain... When was the last time the team were in 6th and 7th in a race? We didn’t finished that way because of the issues with Lando’s car... But on pace, we were best of the rest... That’s something to be happy about and encouraging for the future.
