Canadian Grand Prix dropped for 2009

This just opens the door for 100% market share for the new IndyCART merger.

IT will come down to the regs adopted from 2010->.

It would be great for a unified rules series with F1, but I think that IndyCART may take the correct road, and then obliterate F1 in terms of technology and interest.

That is hugely down to getting some of the young NASCAR drivers to cross over and bring their fanbases with them however.

IRL will never have KERS, high technology wise they will neve be on that level, they do not have the funding for it.

How many people - even hard core race fans - will stay away from the top level open-wheel races in North America for that reason?

Think outside your narrow perspective of an F1 fan. Think of just good competitive racing in general. Can you imagine an auto racing fan saying, "I won't go to an IndyCar race - they don't have KERS"? OR "If I can't watch the US F1 GP on TV I won't watch IndyCars - after all, they don't even have carbon brake discs!"

BTW, if KERS is too expensive for non-F1 racing, then how does it fit in F1's "cost saving" campaign?

My reference to KERS was in responce to CONCEPTUAL'S assertion that the IRL will "obliterate F1 in terms of technology & interest", the IRL will never operate on the budget of f1, and I dont think they aspire to.

KERS fits into f1 plan of "road relevance", money spent in R&D of KErs would have been earmarked for similar R&D by the manufactuers anyway, None of the manufacturers are interested in producing a 19K RPM 2.4L v8 for any of their road cars.

Given the concentration of teams operationally based in the UK and western europe, if travel distance/costs were really the issue then F1 should barely be crossing any water greater than the channel - as they are after everything devolved, maybe we should be thinking of a welsh and scottish GP. Think Bern and Maxi might be following the smell of money. The racing incidents were the only bit that stirred up the night race at all; only one place for a slightly ballsy overtaking move?

Bernie, you bastard. I have already booked the hotels for my group, 8 people of family and friends. WTF? I had already planned out the drive from NYC with two cars and had convinced for the first time my girlfriend to come to an F1 race. WTF bernie, you SoB.

Thr reason why the Canadian GP was dropped was because the teams wanted a three week, mid-season break. They could have dropped another race or just made 2-3 week spaces between races, instead of dropping the canadian gp and it's the most exiting race on the entire calendar and the race that will probably replace it will probably suck!

Another win for money? Err with little brand exposure in North America plenty will be lost by the teams. Instead we go to the oil rich Abu Dhabi, is this going to be a road race? I don't think it is, so that is a plus but why drop Canada when the race is far more exciting than: Monaco, Hungary, Valencia, Barcelona errr? F1 hasn't been about the "show" or about the "racing" or about the "fans" for way too long now.

Yeah, and like Montreal is an example of morality! It's the drivers favourite weekend because of the high quality stip clubs, prostitutes etc. DC was never shy in admitting that. Maybe there wasn't enough S and M to keep the "powers that be content
Speaking of S and M and Max Mosley, check out the film "The Bank Job". It's got some similar scenarios of powerful men getting whipped for fun and then being exposed to the media with all the MI5 and and various other agencies getting involved.
