RIC had the highest MAX speed of all on qualifying.
This is a sign that the new spec should be a decent step.
Mclaren is supposed to be a more aero efficient car than Renault atm.
Can't wait to see what Mclaren can do with the new spec.
Hope they can make the POU suspension to work also.

Sainz:
The team is in a very good shape the race ream is performing great, and the car in the wind tunnel at the factory is alive.

Wonder what Sainz means by that
That they are making good progress.

Why this team always has the same problem? Hydraulics! Since the Hakkinen days (maybe even Senna days) every single time a Mclaren stops, it's because of hydraulics! Raikkonen in 2005 and Hamilton-Button in 2012 are 2 great examples of hydraulic failures all the time!
you must not have been watching during the second honda partnership.
hahaha...the second Honda partnership is a whole different story...GP2 engines!!
But besides that...isn't that true?? I never heard another team having so many hydraulic issues...!

One thing that Paul di Resta touched on during the Sky post-race analysis with Lando & Carlos rang particularly true with me: the McLaren camp seems like such a nice place to be right now.

I know it’s easy to be happy when you’re doing well but there seems to be a top down approach to the team where everyone from Zak, the drivers, chief engineers, designers, shareholders and all the guys back at the MTC all genuinely seem to be on the same page for the first time since, what, 2012?

As much as we all must acknowledge & appreciate the incredible talent of Fernando, I think that his presence had become a bit toxic within the team resulting in the whole organisation revolving around his quest for immediate success and removing him from that pedestal appears to have revitalised the McLaren recovery. Certainly his departure seemed to allow for a more gradual, sensible, long-term approach to this years car where the goal is building towards a goal slowly rather than chasing a “silver bullet” revolution to catapult them back to the front of the grid like there has been since 2015.

6th & 7th, 9th or 10th doesn’t really matter to me - this weekend is the first weekend where true team progress appears to have been made in many years and Zak Brown and the management deserve great praise for that.
I more or less agree with your post, but the bolded part is simply false. He joined McLaren (again) looking at the long term, he was perfectly conscious results woulnd´t appear in first or second season, but the team didn´t comply with any goal, both because of the PU and the car, so the atmosphere in the team was toxic, agree, but because of the fail of a project wich didn´t reach any expectation, not because of one of the drivers

Specially when both McLaren and Honda did a poor job, there are a lot of points to criticize both ways, so the relationship becomes toxic quite easily. A demanding driver like Alonso is not a good idea in that scenario, I agree, but he only asked for what they did promise, this is F1, if anyone don´t reach expectations, he´s blamed, anyone, drivers, teams, suppliers, engineers, team principals...

The car is a dog, the PU looks like from a different category, but let´s blame the driver

It bothers me though that we can't increase that point gap to the other midfield teams by a lot. When we go to races that we are way better something bad happens and we can't increase that difference.
Look at it from a different angle. McLaren has suffered some problems and bad luck, but even so they´re leading the midfield with some margin

I´m very positive about McLaren, even when fighting RBR is just a dream right now despite some members request, they´re improving constantly, and reducing the gap with the top teams. If they can continue this progress, next season we may dream with some real battle with RBR (depending on their improvement obviously), or even with some podium at some caothic race

At least mclaren can split Gasly RB, thats huge achievement for them. Sainz and Norris are equally strong too, hence the outlook looks bright for them, as long as they can maintain the development budget throughout the season. Hopefully both MCL and Renault could made performance improvements hence there is no 2 tier championship anymore from Ferarri to FI. Merc is on another planet.

I hope so, three long straight, plus high-speed turns.

Are we still strong on the straights?
Q: (Stefano Mancini – La Stampa) Kimi, will you help Vettel to win his championship this year?
Kimi Raikkonen: I can only drive one car, obviously.

Yeah, Carlos said upgrades coming, but not for Austria

Not like before, but I like the way McLaren accelerates from slow corners, and I think this is important in Austria.
