According to the team official review for the Austrian GP, Lando (and Seidl) confirmed they were running to a delta to just match Gasly's times. Lando said that there was a lot more to it (pace), but he did just enough to keep the position and save the tires. Honestly that pace from Carlos at the end, even setting the fastest lap at one point, overtaking all of the cars ahead of him one by one confirms that the team had pretty good race pace here. And Sainz believed he had enough to take 7th from Gasly aswell if he hadn't damaged his front wing. Great weekend for the team here, I would say even better than Paul Ricard.

Great stuff by McLaren today. Track layout and weather helped us a lot. But the car and drivers are the main part of our success this season.

I am looking for a great weekend at Silverstone!
To do something well is so worthwhile that to die trying to do it better cannot be foolhardy. It would be a waste of life to do nothing with one's ability, for I feel that life is measured in achievement, not in years alone. ― Bruce McLaren

Look at them!! So young and so fresh, they can easily be best friends right now, and they radiate all the Mclaren great team spirt! I was sad when Fernando left the sport, but after today, yeah so long, old man. Make space for the youth!

I really like Lando. Even in the middle of the race, he has a sense of humor. “You mean like, forever?”

Lando is a (seems to me) open, humourus and emotional Guy. I was set to not like him (so much hype) but you simply must like this Guy and he is also living up to his rep imho. Even together with Sainz, not so easy. Hopefully they can continue like this.

I'm not convinced he was joking, I think he was confused. I havnt quite figured out what was going on there to be honest. They wanted Ricciardo to have drs to stay ahead of gasly? how did that help.
Maybe for Sainz? whatever, they must have been pretty sure they had a lot of pace in hand

I think they wanted to give Ricciardo the extra speed of the tow so he could keep Gasly behind him longer. Gasly was on newer tires so Any extra wear you can give him the better it is later in the race. Gasly never got close to Norris in the second stint though.

watching our cars outpacing one of the redbulls on most races makes me very curious what alonso could do in it. obviously verstappen lapped gasley on pure drivers pace, and the fact that we spend so much time driving to a delta makes me wonder how much pace is really there. i doubt if having alonso would put us in the top 3, and gasley is clearly under performing, but judging from alonsos past years against slower teammates it just has to make you wonder. killer race today either way.

yea i think it was both to keep ricciardo between him and gasley, and to possibly help sainz catch up. but since they had to know that ricciardo would be pitting very soon, it seems like the better thing to do would be to try building a gap. maybe they wanted to try wrecking gasleys tires too. his front right was blistering within a few laps of swapping to the hards.

I love what he’s focusing on... Every point counts for Mclaren, not taking unnecessary risks allows the team to have a better probability of points and for him to get more seat time in the car... The right way to approach it!

Norris taking the iRacing approach, keep it safe and finish the race :D

About keeping Ricciardo in DRS, I think they wanted to put more pressure on Gasly, force him to destroy his tires more (something he admitted after the race, that he destroyed his tires passing Kimi).

excellent job, but what is that at the start? a video glitch or a car glitch?

McLaren showing some very good pace once again. They seem to be comfortably ahead of everyone in the midfield except Perez. They're almost on pace with the top 3 around here.

Whatever McLaren is doing is working well. =D>

The car is working, the drivers are working and seem to have the same or vastly similar feedback, and the management structure now looks as if it's working properly.

Zak has got his structures working, Seidl has his vision and he knows what and knows how to achieve it. Key and Prodromu will handle the chassis side of things, and will work accordingly to get the team back to the sharper end. And de Ferran is a good sporting director, who will improve the operational side of the team.

The new wind tunnel will pay for itself, this is the investment id argue that McLaren needed 4-5 years ago, but Ron thought the money needed spent on something else. And i think the decision for the team to go for Renault power is right, as Renault seem to be developing, better than Honda, yes. Just need the downforce and power from Renault, and I'm sure this car will start to trouble the top 3.

Im a happy McLaren fan right now.
