Honda Power Unit Hardware & Software

All that has to do with the power train, gearbox, clutch, fuels and lubricants, etc. Generally the mechanical side of Formula One.

A failed sensor triggered a safety thus limiting the engine severely.

Mode "Fail 03" is a setting to be dialed on the steering wheel by the pilot.
It resets the engine to default and ignores the sensors readings/output.

Will be interesting to see how much longer this power unit lasts. Should tell us something about how hard it was actually pushed in Austria.

Tanabe: “We were on the edge on terms of cooling,” he said.
“Of course, the high temperatures forced us to save the power unit.
We tried to extract as much power as we could."

The engine therefore can deliver even more power. :)

Since they started in Paul Richard, by Spa, Monza that's 5 or 6 races total. If it lasts until then mission almost accomplished!

It was just a failed sensor on the exhaust I sure. Is not intergral to the running of the engine.nice victory for Honda last week some people were calling them to leave
I guess that every cylinder has it's own O2 sensor.

This question was asked on the F1technical subrddit recently. Take of it what you will.

That being said, nothing stops them having their own monitoring and sensing equipment installed.

That last picture: Never realised there is so much "left over" space between the tail of the bull and number 10 underneath the engine cover. Is this for cooling or aero performance?

Mandated bodywork area (thought there was a minimum amount required there) ? Having said that, the "flat" portion of the bodywork is quite small, so having the "3-D" surface is doing something.

Flat silver part is a radiator. Air intake is the top vent of 2nd photo, exit is between radiator and bodywork. Maybe it increases flow.

Looks like they've moved to a dual outlet compressor.

New spec incoming, have any of you noticed Honda has no reservations giving money shots of the power unit once a new one is rumored to be around the corner.

Interesting about that gap between the exhaust and bodywork, and how it tapers down. I know what that does.

If this keeps up Verstappen is going to know what Marquez in Moto GP has been feeling the last couple of years.

This power unit has taken a nice step forward, it's so beautifully constructed. The oil tank =D>

Exactly.

Mind sharing what that gap does godlameroso?
