This track is pretty much like silverstone, but with just a bit less emphasis on straight line performance, so the obviousness of ferrari's lack of corner speeds in silverstone can't be overlooked. Red bull will beat them in qualifying and race. Quali will be close, but in the race merc and rb will run and hide. There's a high chance even gasly will be able to beat at least one ferrari.

In terms of laptime, probably 0.3-0,5s faster than last year, as is tradition.

People should really give it rest. Every GP starts at zero. If he deserves it or not is dependant on his performance this weekend. And he does go well here.

Remember, last year Merc was losing around 4 tenths on the straights in Hockehneim. So I wouldn't be too confident saying that Merc will totally run away. It's an interesting track and I say it'd suit Ferrari more than Silverstone did, and you know how close Leclerc was to pole in a track where Ferrari 'sucked'.

The big thing is going to be the weather. A week ago it looked like Austria-like temps for the weekend, but now that weather seems to come a couple of days early and the weekend is now schedueled to have rain (yes I said the r word) and normal temperatures of 28 degrees maximum which is well within the air temperatures seen in Bahrain, Monaco, Paul Ricard, Spain etc. All races where Mercedes had zero cooling issues from what we could notice. So the only hope for a battle for the win is;
1. If the weather forecast changes again and the high temperatures do actually come in the weekend
2. Bottas has grown a bigger beard and has eaten porridge

Vettel has proven over his career that if he doesn't start from the front row, then he's unlikely to win.

Post-2017 cars would be mighty at Nurburgring with those long sweeping corners. Too bad this track isn't going back to F1 in the foreseeable future.

This year's car concepts for each team are quite a bit different.

Maybe the first part of the track, up to turn 8, is similar to Silverstone. Turns 3-5 and 7 are all basically flat-out.

However, the rest of the lap, from turn 8 to 17, there are few straights and several technical, challenging low-speed corners. Red Bull is going to be strong here.
