Mercedes-AMG F1 W10 EQ Power+

A place to discuss the characteristics of the cars in Formula One, both current as well as historical. Laptimes, driver worshipping and team chatter do not belong here.

Jezus, they are going full on B-spec.

Have to say I think the livery looks horrible, especially on the HALO it looks like something that has been chipping paint for 20 years.
It looks like a heavy duty stickers were removed and pulled some of the paint off with it  But il hold my judgement until i can see the full car.

That's the point, silver arrows used to be white before they scrapped the paint to save weight...halo livery is tribute to that :D

Flow viz paint on that new white paint. Would have been wind tunnel work or a test somewhere?

Probably just a reflection of the neon green fan in the sidepod.

Seeing how massive the upgrade is I think we can speak of a B-spec. Expect a return to Paul Ricard domination no matter what the rest brings.

It looks like Mercedes have reverted to a design similar to that used on last years car, shown below in purple:

Do the new crash structure elements sticking out suggest that this is indeed the new lightweight chassis which passed crash tests and was rumored to be introduced in Hockenheim?

zibby, that image is of the 2018 W09 car. I don't think there has been any change to the side impact structures with this new update, at least no visible changes I can deduce.

Not from that photo.

I was basing that question on this photo:

That thick upper horn element present now. That’s part of the crash structure protruding, no?

The upper SIPS don't stick out that far. I doubt these are influencing this now upward bending element.
