That's odd. Is it a technical infringement or a sporting infringement? I thought time penalties were only applicable for sporting code infringements. They should really be excluded.

Well it's clear Mercedes does not enjoy the same advantage as last spring and so many more races to go. Sure the gap is large but one more offday day and it becomes a contest.

They should, but they succeeded in claiming it was a misunderstanding and not an infringement. Apparently FIA decided to be lenient and go with that excuse.

When they give tyres that go against the wishes of the driver who is actually on track then we can quite rightly blame the team for doing a bad job, it was their mistake that set of the chain of events, that is quite clear to most observers.

Well done Verstappen and RBR, a bit lucky with the SC's but they delivered nonetheless. Great result for Vettel, that should make up a little for last year's disaster.

But Kvyat is driver of the day for me. He was overdue for some luck, the way RedBull has treated him, and maybe this will open the door back to the senior team again.

And Sainz just keeps stringing up strong results. Loved how Raikkonen just blazed through the field in the opening stages, hated how was let down by a ultra-slow pitstop.

Totally agree with this. Leclerc benefitted from the unsafe release. That’s why they did it. So he should have received a penalty. The penalty needed to be more than the time saved by not waiting for a safe slot to release. Otherwise teams will unsafe release every time and take the financial hit.

Similarly, though not safety related, by entering the pits as he did Hamilton avoided doing a lap with half a front wing. I’d have expected him to lose much more than 5 seconds.

Both scenarios suggest that taking a chance on rule infringement is the “right” way to go under this steward regime.

Exactly. If Max's spin had caused damage he'd have been way back too. Sometimes you just need to have a bit of good fortune on your side. Today Max did and many others didn't.

Hamilton was also very lucky. If he did the.crash at 10 meter forward he would go with that car whole one lap before pitting.
