Hamilton: "We were surprised to see this morning that we were so close to the Red Bulls and Ferraris, so hopefully that remains the same through the weekend."

Joking, fooling viewers or simply smoked something? Whatever it is, it sounds ridiculous.

Nobody has shown their cards yet, so Lewis is free to play his usual mind games, I guess.

He might be talking in comparison to previous years.

I thought he meant that he was expecting Merc to have a bigger advantage and was surprised it was a close battle with the top 3, and he hope it remained a close battle. Something he has said he relishes in the past, on multiple occasions.

Which doesn't sound ridiculous at all.

Is the forum becoming pro-Max / anti-Hamilton?
Yes.

Now forum policy incoming: language used here will be Dutch, you will wear those awful orange t-shirts, you will only eat a "broodje Kroket" from now on and you are ought to attend races where Max can win, maybe or maybe not in a drunk state  .

usually Bottas is pretty strong in Hungary. No idea how much of a setback the engine issue will be, but also two years ago he beat Hamilton in qualifying, and over this season he usually was at his best on circuits that tend to be front-limited.
I'm not sure if that is a joke or not?

[...]

His best circuits are those with little to no deg, Russia, etc, not front limited ones. As with Rosberg if he can qualify ahead or be ahead in the first corner at a track with hard passing like Singapore/Monaco, otherwise he'll be overcut or be a sitting duck late in the race as he was last year here, Brazil, USA and anywhere similar.
no, it's no joke, I can see him taking Pole today - as he did on 3 of 4 front limited circuits so far this year. And if he does, that should be enough to finish ahead of Verstappen tomorrow.
Of course on a one stopper Mercedes had a disadvantage when it comes to "deg" against Ferrari when Bottas had this great race there and had to had a massive first stint to build the lead and defend it on the second. Nothing to do with track or low degradation (edit:" meaning general low degradation of the track "helping" Bottas if that's not clear") or any of this made up BS. Whereas Hamilton was nowhere. Conclusion: Bottas is only good on low deg track like Russia  . Not in Hungary here or Silverstone recently. Rubbish at those.

2nd edit: Baku 2 years ago Bottas was stretching stints and Hamilton had to pit becasue his tyres were done, presumably becasue of low track deg  .

Anyone have any idea why RedBull are shown on the FP1 cover shot on the forum? Far as I know, Hamilton doesn't drive for RedBull...

Is the forum becoming pro-Max / anti-Hamilton?
It's just the MOD bias. It was turbo's turn to pick the picture. I think he wanted James Hunt but Steven says we have to at least pick a car that was in the session so we got Max.
James Hunt? Now that would be cool. Perhaps all news reports should have photos of drivers of yesteryear - we could then try to guess which driver relates to which current one. That would be fun during the summer break.

I'd prefer frikandel if that's ok...happy to be maybe or maybe not drunk too =D>

According to Google Translate, in Dutch that's:

Ik geef de voorkeur aan frikandel als dat ok is ... gelukkig om misschien of misschien ook niet dronken te zijn

My apologies if it's incorrect. I shall book Dutch lessons on Monday morning!

Was it really that hard to use brooms. Now we have minus 10 minutes because of the clean up and then 20 minutes of running to get the track suitable again. Makes it basically a 30 minute practice,

Well, oil doesn't really clean up well with brooms, but, I do agree that a middle ground (much less chalk?) should have been possible.

Those 30 minutes might still be interrupted by rain - let's hope the white stuff is gone by then, or it will be very, eh, tough, to get moving on turn 4.

Merc favorite, the W10 is superb here and they are still to use the party modes. However a tight battle between Ferrari and RB is shaping up, which is suprising as it was expected this track should heavily favor the RB we were told.
