Ofcourse the Merc is still the better package but RBR is comming closer and surely not 1 second off on Any track anymore (like you were claiming in The Germany thread still).

I was not claiming that, I was pointing to the data showing it. Perhaps RB messed up on the friday in Hockenheim, spoilimg the data we had. Still the Merc is better, just that RB have Max Verstappen. He absolutely nails it this year and especially these last weeks he has been on a different planet with still the 2nd best car. Now lets hope he can continue that tomorrow, but the starts of the RB’s have been bad this year and the run to the first corner is long. So fingers crossed.

Hamilton didn't have DRS after last turn. I wonder if he had it during first sector.

I’ve seen a few references to this now. Did it stay closed all the way to the line?

It didn't cost him the 0.180 he needed for P2 so he got away with it if it was only sector 3. Ill wait for video evidence for sector 1 though but he was only 0.149 off Bottas so...

on the radio the team told him that he lost the time mostly in turn 1 and 2. No mention of the DRS

we are going to see mid to low 1.14 i guess during Q3 ... if the conditions stays as they were

Well that's a shame. He does like to control it manually, so possible he forgot or his thumb slipped and didn't press the button enough?

They all open it manually. They usually manually close it too, although it auto-closes on brake application.

Congratulations to Max for his first pole!

Mercedes was considered clear favorites on this track, also before they introduced their big upgrade package which reportedly worked. Even more amazing that they lost today.
That was a stellar lap from Max. The Red Bull seems to start working more and more, but I’m sure Verstappen’s skills played a big role in addition to that.

Verstappen indeed did say he left next to nothing on the table. He also said that that is easy to claim when you have pole, but he is always frank when asked about these things. I only saw a little correction in the final turn, but there your tires are almost done of course.

He had a small correction coming out of 12 as well but we're talking about details. Other than that, to my eyes it was plain perfect.

It was an outstanding lap, hands down.

Merc confirmed DRS failed to activate on final run to line. Only section where it failed to activate.

Could be. I’m just stating that it wasn’t active. I don’t know the cause. Not enough to make up the difference between P1 and P3 though.
