i think he got deceived as well with the decent show from Renault last year i mean he sure thought the only way with Renault is forward with some honey words from them plus Honda unknowing potentials and little preferable for Max from RBR and then add the money factor .. there you have the perfect wrong decision.
para bellum.

I don't have a link, but I remember Horner (and co) saying that Ricciardo was offered all he asked for to stay, It was not over cash. I dont know that he did make the right move, but he made it at the time his value was highest.
I would not be at all surprised to see either him or seb back there soon though
exactly, RB had given RIC everything he asked for, even a short term deal that "IF" a seat came avialable at Mercedes or Ferrari he could leave....
"We gave Daniel everything he wanted and asked for and it still wasn't enough," said Horner. "We bent over backwards to make it happen."

Red Bull's complicity even extended to offering Ricciardo a short-term deal in case Mercedes or Ferrari sought his services for 2020.

"We were even prepared to do a one-year agreement should Ferrari or Mercedes come knocking in 12 months' time," Horner confirmed.

"It wasn't about money, it wasn't about status, position, commitment, or duration. If someone's heart is not really in it…"

That was what Horner said.

But you can see here [url] https://www.google.com/amp/s/www.gpfans ... d=4026/url]

Danny getting paid 3.5 Million more than Max.
Yeah, I dont think Gasly is getting paid 1.4 million euro's  Or at least for their sake hope he isnt. Lando Norris and Albon are getting shafted according to that article, although Norris wont care seeing his father has over 250 million pounds. Verstappen is a relative bargain compared to Vettel

You think RB would have given Ricciardo that Money? Knowing it would be paying Max less?

To me that's proof that Horner was being less that truthful.

Dan wanted more money and Bolted.

That list couldn't be more incorrect lol. That doesn't even match up to the report the contract was worth 49 mil. He claims that's not per year, other sources claim it definitely is, probably why Horner made the remark to Cyril "you probably won't have any money left after that" and Cyril responded with "we are Renault, I have plenty of money"..

This would translate more accurately and is far more believable. Ricciardo is being paid significantly more than Max. That much is obvious. Some outlets implying hes the 3rd highest paid driver at the moment. I would be shitty if I was Hulk though..

Ricciardo wanted to chuck a Hamilton, jump ship to a manufacturer, become their number 1 driver and hope they surge ahead like they promised. At the same time, take a huge pay packet, say RBR are going nowhere and it was never about the money.

Jesus, talking about turning around a career. From no chance at an F1 seat and already signed in FE (also know as where drivers go to retire) to an F1 seat and now a top F1 seat. He is also a very nice chap, just like Lando

That is still a shock! Albon is very talented. If I had to make the decision to replace Pierre (and we would continue to use own RBR talents) I would have also given him the seat. Kvyat is also quick (and much improved) and for now would have been a good choice as well but Albon has shown outstanding talent (both in qualy as well as race craft) and they way they have worded is is that they are evaluating the talent.

I think the fact that RBR is now able to fight with Ferrari was the nail in the coffin for Pierre. Would they have been clear 3rd team they might have prolonged his chance. Very sad fro him but I must also say, I expected him to do much better.

This shows, Red Bull is serious about second place in constructors. Good move. Hope Albon grabs it with both hands.

I hope it is not too early for Albon.
He seems like a good guy for the future.

But logical choice. They already know KVY, they also know GAS is not a top driver, he never was - Hartley comparison was not in any way a good one -

Being promoted to RB after just 12 races in F1 is rather impressive. Good for the WCC, more pressure on Merc and one more driver for Ferrari to worry about :D Hoping he delivers.

Good choice by Red bull i think.
This year was always planned as a building year and they've done better than expected on one side of the garage.

Next year is the important one, it makes sense to put Albon in for the rest of the year instead of Kvyat because Albon is an unknown in top class machinary.

They know what Kvyat can do and how he drives. So this is just a test for next year, if Albon does well he'll get the seat next year. If not then Kvyat will get it next year instead.

Seems like the logical thing to do if their aim is to challenge Mercedes next year.

WOW!! I hope it is not too early for Albon.
He is very talented, but has only 5 months experience in a F1 car!
Very sorry for Kvyat, but Albon is a little bit better I think, they can test him 9 races.
Hopefully he can adapt very soon, I wish him all the best and a little luck.
The Power of Dreams!
