kvyat a bit bitter...
But it's absolutely true. Albon was stuck for ages behind much slower cars, before being elevated by offset tire strategy. Even albon himself said on radio after the race it wasn't a very good performance.
yeah but you would expect some support for Alex first race.
In fact, it was necessary to listen to the question, not the answer. We often hear only the answer and discuss it, while journalists hide their crappy question and how it was asked.
Kvyat's question sounded something like this:
Alexander Elbon had a very good first leg at Red Bull Racing. Are you not afraid that because of this, Red Bull will forget about you?
Kvyat answered quite rightly to this pungent question. Kvyat came 7th to Toro Rosso from 19th place. 5th Albon from the 17th. It was a great race for both of them, but everyone says how good Albon is, as if someone told them to say that, without noticing Kvyat.

Kvyata also answered the question about Max's bad starts.
Question: Max Verstappen said that he has problems with starts with the power plant of the third version, and he hopes that the new engine will solve them. Do you have problems with starts?

Daniil Kvyat: I started well in Spa, but I started normally with the third engine specification. In fact, I do not know what kind of problems the Red Bull has with the starts. Each team has its own approach to the start procedure, and I do not know how they act in Red Bull. Personally, I started normally in Germany, Hungary and Spa. Have I had bad starts in the past? No, I don’t remember.

If your energy recovery system works efficiently you can overcome drs by electric power. But I think Mercedes is still most efficient one. Mercedes powered carscan run from it too.
Trouble is drs is not effective in Monza and everyone will save the battery for the long straight so not much overtaking possible as everyone will have electric boost in straights.

It is effective if you use it right. There was a lot more overtaking this year at Spa than last year.

Max: "In terms of power, this engine is going to bring us closer to Mercedes, although closing the gap with Ferrari in that area is still a difficult story. But it is at least another step forward. One of the bigger steps we've taken so far In terms of capacity, I think the biggest since the collaboration with Honda."

In fact, Albon was nothing spectacular at the beginning of the race. But he did a good job
Kvyat - Spec 4
Albon - Spec 2, last legs, will no longer be used in races.

kvyat a bit bitter...
"I don't know why you call it such a good start?" said Kvyat when asked for his views on Albon's Red Bull debut.
"He spent 36 laps behind me in a Red Bull car. And then he started in front of me as well, so I don't know. Maybe in the future he will do better."
These people just want to stir stuff up. Kvyat is driving at a high level and delivering. He thoroughly enjoyed the Spec4.
If you want to see bitter checkout the McLaren driver interviews! A week later and they are still trying to wear a smile.

Cant be. FAI says he used new spec in FP1. Unless they changed between Fp1 and Fp2.

Race pace is so so. Actually Gasly was faster on mediums and matching on softs. Even Kvyat was doind similar times to Redbull. Hmm

Dont think so, they usually run the new specs right away to do the calibrations. The engine tone was different a bit to the previous specs as well.

Yes, well. What di you think yourself mcmika. Gasly and Verstappen are running fresh spec4.0s and Gasly is high in the speed trap, does a very quick long run.

So is Gasly now suddenly super good or do you think it could be that his PU is turned up a bit higher just to see If all indeed Goes well? For Max they will save the capacity for when it really matters. Race and qualy’s (after this one).

Would it be worth it to get Max in q3 to give Albon a tow?

No. Save the PU. They have already been doing that today with Max (If you see what Gasly could do with his spec4).

I am curious to see what Albon will achieve though. I think he is quite good.

Well even Kvyat was doing similar lap times as Gasly and Albon, maybe few tenths down. But clearly the Toro Rosso is dailed in on a changeable track ala Germany.
