You really think they’re gonna pick Hulkenberg over Vettel?
would you pick Vettel over Hulkenberg as No2 driver at Ferrari?
Any day of the week.

4-time WDC, toro rosso race winner, Ferrari race winner,
vs never-ever winning not even a PODIUM achieving mediocre driver that is the Hulk.

Hell, i'd pick Norris or Russell over Hulk for a seat at Merc or Ferrari.

Hulk is not a bad driver, but he's hugely overhyped and overappreciated.
With the current levels of reliability and performance differential between F1/F1.5, I don't think using podiums as a performance indicator is very fair - consistency seems better.
I would pick Vettel over Hulkenberg in general, but as a second driver, he might be less willing to accommodate. But I would also pick Hulk over Stroll or Grosjean, despite the latter having one or more podiums, though.

Ferrari need a stronger driver to get more point. Hulk nor Kimi would not able to do this job.

If they want to win in 2020 and beyond they need some one level/higher with Lecrec. You cannot go with this kid to win the WDC and WCC beyond 2020.

The car is good for this specific track and he is able to hold Mercedes. If it is in different track, Hamilton trashed him. Thats a truth.

And we are comparing him with out of form Vettel. That is also not right. Lecrec needs 3 to 4 years time to groom him self to get WDC but not sure whether ferrari can stick with him that long.

I don’t think early-2018 Vettel was too out of form, was he? Ditto with *most* (not all) races of 2017

Just to add to the speculation the recent interview of Jean Marc Fortin (Toyota Overdrive) says that he doesn't know if Alonso will race the Dakar yet. Interesting comment after Monza. Spanish media interview

Good to hear as I am Alonso Fan. Hoping history will repeat like 2015 but other way around. Vettel to RBR and Alonso to Ferrari.

That isn't what he was saying at all.
He says: ""I do not know if he will finish the Dakar/if he will make it to the end , but of course the Top 5 would be a viable goal."

Maybe it is a typo mistake from the writer because or a wrong translation from them but " No se si hara el dakar al final" in Spanish means "he doesn't know if he will make the dakar at the end" as if it is in doubt. Otherwise would be "No se si finalizara o lo hara hasta el final"

I think that it must be a typo mistake from the writer, because Fernando is very exciting about his adventure.
A while ago he wrote on his Instagram: "We believe that if something frightens you, but makes you happy, then you should go for it."

The Dakar rally in Jan 2020. It is a single rally not for entire year. So, I think there is a good chance he could sign with Ferrari.

Not sure about why Vettel and Binotto keep on saying that there is a contract for 2020. I think there is something going in background.

Last year Joe Saward posited that Vettel had too much extraneous stuff to deal with at Ferrari (be a leader etc.) and thus was unable to solely focus on the driving. At RBR, he had no distractions and no responsibilities, other than to drive as fast as he could.

It sounded like a reasonable argument. And it hasn't quite been two years either. Up to Germany 2018 he was keeping it together fairly well. Maybe Marchionne's death had something to do with it, too.

Whatever it is, if he snaps out of it and gets his head right, I expect he'll still be a match for Leclerc.

That makes sense. Like hiw many times we hear him second guessing strategy plans on the radio. Has to be detracting from his driving capacity

I wonder if SM had been playing the Horner/Wolff role of keeping him happy and embracing him. Perhaps some internal machinations changed under the new leadership scheme

I have no evidence to back it up but I think so. And a car to suit his style probably
