Here a picture of a hilarious truck with lousy storage method.

500-750mile range, 1000 HP, 10-15minute refill, ready for autonomous drive.. O did I mention it will be cheaper to run than a diesel?

It is such a lousy truck that they only have 12 billion US dollar on pre-orders 😉

How many did they sell? Or is this just a project? They are going to be the ones to build the post refill?

Latest I heard was 13000, but they lease it to their customers including green hydrogen fuel for some $1.000.000 for a period of 7 years

They will build the hydrogen filling stations as well, 10 very larges ones in 2021 expanding to 700 in 2027.

I think this thread has just hit 'ludicrous' mode. Non existent trucks with no confirmed fuel supply prove nothing.

Looks pretty real to me!

But probably you are right and last 2 weeks only, there was $500 million invested (valued at 3 billion) in a fairytail

From the article:
"In this case we are using a combination of clean air and vacuum technology within the turbine. It allows us to still have a very efficient, reliable, high-voltage network but to also be environmentally friendly," said Costa Pirgousis from Scottish Power Renewables.

"Once there are viable alternatives on the market, there is no reason not to use them. In this case, we've got a viable alternative and that's why we are using it."
And at the bottom of the article..
The EU will review the use of SF6 next year and will examine whether alternatives are available.

But thanks for the link, didn´t know about SF6, even if it will probably be banned next year

The IPCC says that SF6 is about 2% of the non-water vapor greenhouse effect, or about 0.4% of the total.

So banning this, which is not practical, wouldn't have much effect. Far better would be to make sure that it is easy to recover when cabinets are opened, and that installations are checked for leaks.

the news 'story' linked by j a f seems rather good compared to the usual BBC biased approach
even the version broadcast yesterday was only mildly biased (classic pseudo-smoky thermal power station as background)
the BBC takes £153 ($200) annually from every householder's bank account and gives some to the lefty greenist Channel 4
has there been some legal constraint on their imaginative inclinations ?

though we are told the non SF6 offshore (Suffolk) 714 MW wind farm 'supplies power' to 500000 homes
which therefore seem to have no heating systems and manage without electricity when the wind is too strong or too weak

btw
SF6 has for many decades been shown as a miracle gas for wind tunnels
requiring only 1% (or so) of the fan power needed when air is the gas being circulated

what is easier .. a 35 countries project with around $65+ B funds which expect to see the first light at 2050 after massive R&D and results are not guaranteed the ITER largest fusion experiment .. or those 35 countries develop an engine to extract hydrogen from water like the conventional process in a car powered by oil ICE so you just fill your tank with water which instantly transferred to an engine extract hydrogen and power the car while get you water again as emission.. and there you have your limitless power .. after inventing such engine the R&D for fusion will be even easier if people will even need it.
Nikola Tesla wanted a wireless transmission of electrical energy and guided missiles boats more than a hundred years ago .. people were Electrolysis water for more than 150 years .. and in 2019 you telling me they can't make a lightweight great range instant chargeable batteries or inventing a sophisticated hydrogen engines?!! good luck with that.

It is far easier to tax and control centrally generated energy, so the Wells type machine* will never happen (on this planet)

Power battery recycling center operates for 5G construction in C China
China's new-energy cars are expected to reach up to 6 million by 2020 when 200,000 tons of power batteries are estimated to retire. The retired battery piles, if not properly dealt with, will pose a great threat to the environment.
"The center will serve as a platform in building an integrated system of recycling retired power batteries and accelerating the application of related technological breakthroughs," said Liu Guofeng, vice general manager of China Tower.

Re: Will Electric Vehicles Be Viable? When?

Thanks for that article pointing at SF6. Also new to me, makes sense.

As usual in this problem of filling the world with energy, though, it is difficult to deal with the scales involved (a factor of 23000, lifetime of 1000 years, orders of magnitude of uncertainty on leaks). Calculating with very large numbers is difficult, operating with the differences between two very large numbers more even so.
So, it looks really scary, but...
"Each turbine would normally have contained around 5kg of SF6, which, if it leaked into the atmosphere, would add the equivalent of around 117 tonnes of carbon dioxide. This is roughly the same as the annual emissions from 25 cars."
If that journo did not mess up that info (usually happens), we are talking of a full leak from a monster turbine being the warming equivalent of the lifetime emission of about 2 ICE cars, because that same turbine would not keep leaking all its contents each year. Tough trade-off!

Yet, as all changes, this will come with its own new problems. This one is "easy" to regulate away, one painful government at a time.

By the way, really fascinating stuff, this SF6! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U4ixGhtBPp0 :-)

Edit: And as an illustraton of how both sides tend to exxagerate and mould reality in this big debate:
The 23000 factor was arrived to considering the greenhouse potential of the substance over a period of 100 years. Which is an interesting choice for a substance expected to stay in the atmosphere for ten times as long.
Rivals, not enemies.
