Here’s an idea. Run the race as a time trial. Start off at 3 second intervals, in reverse championship order. If you get caught you’re eliminated and have to pull over and head for the pits. Points awarded for Each place you make up.
This scheme operates quite nicely for rowing eights in Cambridge(England). It’s called “The Bumps”. It would demonstrate which car driver combination was fastest and most reliable, any error might mean elimination, without the need for the stars to wrestle with the also rans. No awkwardness from lapping and blue flags. Plenty of technical skill in judging how quickly to use up your resources, tyres, brakes etc. Even Monaco becomes victory to the most able.
Events could be one day. Practise in the morning, race in the afternoon, concert in the evening.
