Is this related to the new suspension Mercedes seems to be working with/on?

are you thinking of Lewis-era McLaren with the hard suspension? Mercedes I'd say are known more for FRICS that i think was Aldo Costa's specialist subject, and then the hydraulic bits that got banned at the start of last year. There's a similar pic somewhere of Rosberg doing the same thing a couple of years ago. That suspension is firm in some ways and soft in others
But now yes i reckon this is the new suspension dropping right down at the back under load, scraping the whole length of the plank. So it's one thing on corner entry and another thing on the exit and at speed. There was a pic of Valtteri scraping the back of the plank through 130R, on Friday I think
