Quite sad that an A1GP looks more like an F1 car than...an F1 car.

Good thing Mad Max doesn't have too much control over this series.

Mario Almondo said: "It is a pleasure to cooperate with A1GP World Cup of Motorsport. The project and the development of the chassis-engine package has been done in a record-time frame. The 8-cylinder engine, which will be the basis of the new family of Ferrari road cars engines, has shown excellent performance and driveability.

Engine:

Configuration: 90 degree V8
Displacement: 4500 cc
Width: 666.5 mm
Height: 446 mm
Length: 569 mm
Weight: 160 kg
Cylinder block: Die cast aluminium alloy
Cylinder head: Sand cast aluminium alloy
Valvetrain: 4 overhead camshafts, 4 valves per cylinder
Engine Management: Bosch MED 9.6
Injection: Gasoline direct injection
Spark plugs: NGK
Fuel: Shell E10 102 RON
Max Torque: 406 lbs·ft (550 N·m)
Max power: 600 bhp (448 kW) - with PowerBoost

Chassis:

Weight: Approx 695kg including driver, race ready (excluding fuel)
Front and rear suspension: Double wishbone with pushrod operated coil over damper units. Adjustable ride height, cambers and toe, adjustable anti-dive and anti-squat to optimise drive control
Anti-roll bar: Multi adjustable, quick change front and rear roll bars
Chassis: Carbon fibre skins, aluminium honeycomb core. Tested to meet all applicable FIA crash safety standards
Bodywork: Light weight composite bodywork
Gearbox: Six-speed longitudinal sequential. Gear selection via a Magneti Marelli paddle shift system
Drive line: Tripod jointed driveshafts
Brakes: Brembo carbon discs, six-pot aluminium calipers
Dampers: Penske VBP-45, two-way adjustable
Wheels: Front 13” dia. X 12” Rear 13” dia. X 14”
Steering: Titan angle drive bevel and two-pinion ratio’s
Steering wheel: 280mm diameter carbon, with mounted LCD dash
Instrumentation and display: Magneti Marelli mounted display unit; Multi-channel logging facility for engineering analysis
Seat belt: FIA approved SABELT six-point safety harness
Fuel cell: ATL fuel cell approximately 150-litres capacity and designed to take up to 50 per cent ethanol
Clutch: AP three-plate carbon/carbon with steel hub
Tyres: Michelin control slick and treaded wet tyres

So they aren't 700BHP but <600BHP in normal race mode. With a weight of roughly 700kg, this is under 1000BHP/Tonne so no where what a current F1 car is and its downforce looks to be significantly reduced compared to the F2004.

a 4.5 liter V8, I wonder if thats based on their GT cars.....I'd imagine a pretty highly developed 430 GT engine unrestricted can push 600 bhp....

The pole from Netherlands in 1:24:213 is just 5 seconds off the lap record here (Luca Badoer in 2001 in 1:19:880) and more than 4 seconds quicker than the last lap record by the former A1GP car. Quite impressive. The new car seems to be on par with the current GP2 one.

Even more impressive considering the car is in his first outing.

Yes, I saw. Very impressive.

Do we have any downforce data from the new car? I would like to see what sort of lateral forces we're talking.

Or maybe the A1GP engine is more related to the one in the replacement of the F430, which is due out in a year or two- approx. Since Almondo refers to the 'new family of Ferrari road car engines'.

This might be correct, since the California shares the current 4.3 with the F430, thus the need for a new engine for the replacement of the latter.

Possibly back to the ways of old; detuned race car [engines] for the road cars. As it all began more than half a decade ago.

In Australia, Channel 9 shows it, but it's usually 2 weeks after the event and often at 3am.

Yes, the new A1GP engine does use Direct Injection.

You can read in the previous page of this thread the specifications of the entire car.
