You're right. On top of that, I checked again and despite rain being forecasted for every day in Mexico-City, for now it doesn't seem like any session will be affected.
Accuweather says that today between FP1 and FP2 there might be 1 mm of rainfall. On Saturday no rain from 6 AM to 6 PM and on Sunday no rain before 5 PM local times.

Mexico is really an interesting race, hard to predict. I mean, last year, basically Renault was 2nd best car on Friday...

Engine-wise Renault seems to be pushing the limits very far here, so a DNF is always possible, but if not, I'd think McLaren could really spring a surprise this time. Their high downforce package seems to be good, they are the most gentle on tires, and if we go by last year, the Renault engine could be an advantage as well.

We're further oil burning restrictions and several PU upgrades away from last season.

that's not what last year's advantage was about. It's now likely to disappear though, as I just read on AMuS:

"Compared to the competition, in the past Renault was always using relatively large turbines. At 2285m altitude, they were shoveling more air into the compressor than ther others and therefor, their loss of power was less severe. Also in terms of energy recovery Renault used to be very strong. The engine advantage will be less significant this year though. The turbines of the 2019 Renault V6 engine are smaller than last year."

With low track temps for the weekend, it`ll be a struggle to heat even the soft C2 tyre, not to mention the long straight when the tyres will be cooling down further ...

So, I think it`s down to who`s gonna keep them "into the window" over the entire lap hence who has the biggest downforce levels on slow to medium turns, coz high-speed ones are just a couple of them ...

With this year tyres it`ll probably be a 1-stop race so Merc would opt to start on M tyres, had the delta is small enough between S and M tyre, just mirroring Sochi race strategy ...

they are still several seconds off last years pole, so we have no real idea how good anyone is yet.

We saw Kimi hit 340+ in an Alfa in just an FP. I wouldn't be surprised if Ferrari hit the 380s or 390s on the straight if it is a battery-only thing.
