Very nice job from Bottas. Would have not expected him to beat Hamilton on this track.

Interesting that most drivers didn’t improve on their second runs.

This is one of the Mercedes tracks as well. Only Mercedes poles since 2014. Vettel’s almost identical time is another sign that the Ferrari is significantly faster now than it’s been until summer break.
To be fair, Suzuka was Mercedes ground as well and we know how that ended up.

I certainly expected Ferrari to blitz everybody come Q3 like they are doing since Belgium.
Maybe they didn't use the trick this time due to scrutiny.
I think you're onto something there, I expected Ferrari to build a massive gap with that big straight.
Mexico had an even bigger straight, there it took two corners for Ferrari to lose all what they gained.

I also hope to god you’re 5.
Don't spit the dummy out, you're quick to jump on others.

I've told you Hamilton has been very poor on Saturdays this season. It pains me to say it but he's no longer the fastest driver in F1.
I’ve not spat anything out. I do know my 10 year old would find your self flattery embarrassing though.

Yep damn it that Lewis Hamilton is slow. I mean he hardly wins any races these days :wtf: Or maybe you have just never heard of drivers setting up for race pace 😂
He's clearly not the qualifying force he once was. Oh please, not the setting up for the race scenario.

He's the best qualifier of all time, so please just stop the constant repeated bs

He's the most successful I'll give you that. Sport doesn't stand still for anybody though and this season he's been poor.

Also, if Verstappen doesn't do anything stupid and has a decent start, I'd go as far and nominate him the favourite to win. He sits nicely in P3.

Well he has won 10 races. Maybe he wants the WDC instead of a tea cup that the FIA bought from a car boot sale for 50p?

No I'm just a disappointed fan of his that's wounded he's not smashing it in qualifying.

’He’s been poor’ with 10 wins and his 6th WDC

What's that got to do with the price of bacon? His tyre management is still one of the best in the field but don't try and pretend he willingly qualified in 5th because of a race setup.

Good tyre usage=setup. Not exactly rocket science.

He had good tyre usage last season yet was still clearly faster than Bottas in qualifying, what's the difference this season?

Listen we both know Hamilton has been poor in qualifying this season, at least I will admit it. He's stated that as much himself when mentioning he needs to work on it.

Hamilton has had the title pretty much sewn up much earlier and as usual has looked half arsed afterwards. That shows more in qualifying.

Speed trap data may be interesting. Also when you look back at Japan, Russia ect, weren't Ferrari gaining 4-5 tenths on 1 straight alone.
Speed traps alone don't tell the whole story, though. At Monza, in Singapore and in Russia they weren't the fastest on every speed trap either.

What makes the Ferrari different than others is their acceleration. And today both Ferrari's were the fastest (Vettel on fresh spec 3 clearly fastest) at the finish line which tells you how good your acceleration is because the speeds only go up to about 220+ km/h there.
Vettel was 3 km/h faster than Hamilton and Verstappen and over 4 km/h faster than Bottas at that point.
