Unless it completely falls away from him Hamilton surely has this in the bag. His fastest time was from his first runs and on his quali sim his 3rd sector was 7 tenths faster than anyone else.

Hamilton on most laps had around 0.4s advantage in S3 over verstappen. He did a couple of 37.8 and one 37.775 in S3, while verstappen was doing a couple of 38.2. I don't know where you got 7 tenths, maybe compared to ferrari.

Yeah, only advantage would be that he can give Lewis a tow in Q3. but he may not even need it

They are allowing him to have a go at pole position (even though he has grid penalty) and to show that he is as fast or faster than Lewis. Maybe merc wants him to feel better due to his recent circumstances
