2019 Mclaren F1 Team - Renault

In the last few races, performance on hard tyres had been a week point. It didn't seem so yesterday. Considering they had a strategy disadvantage of not having free tyre choice unlike Perez and Kvyat, their ability to hold positions and overtake the other midfield cars on similar strategies seems promising. If it is due to the upgrades they brought for the race, then it is amazing how they develop the cat till the end to extract every ounce of performance in this car.

Tyres at the Brazilian GP were C3, C4, C5 compounds (C5 being the hardest compound available). At Abu Dhabi we had the C1, C2 and C3. So the hard tyres on offer were the same compound as the Brazilian softs. Most teams struggled to fire up the C5s all season.

It was C3, C4 & C5 for Abu Dhabi.

He said right thing, just wrote wrong designations. Brasil had hardes combination c1,c2,c3 and abudabi softes combo, c3,c4,c5.

Brasil red was white here.

Sorry, I got the numbers back to front! C1 is the hardest, C5 softest, but the Brazil soft compound was indeed the Abu Dhabi hard.

In general our pit stops were OK this year, but we need to improve a lot to be on the level of the RBR or Williams to that matter

I´d say they´ve been ok on average, main problem was consistecy. I think they even won one award to fastest pit-stop, and now in last gp they´ve been 3rd, so they´re fast, or can be fast, problem is some others were...

But even so they improved a lot compared to past season

I wonder how much of an understanding of the Red Bull car philosophy James Key has, after being in STR. He never worked with Red Bull directly, if I’m not mistaken.

Having an understanding of a Newey car is one thing. Designing something equal based on his own talent is a totally different thing. I hope for the latter.

Can’t say I have heard of him, however seems K Mag speaks highly of him! Let’s hope he can build on Landos good rookie season with him. Where is his current performance engineer off too? I saw the emotions at the end of the race between him and Lando.

To my understanding he is leaving F1 for a family life.

Did they bring any new updates for this race? While this a question that has to be posted on the other thread, I am asking this because of their performance on hard tyres. They managed to overtake the Renaults in the race quite a few times and managed to stay ahead of them till the end.
